Gun Buy Back Program Runs Out Of Money To Buy Guns

There were 120 guns brought to a gun buy-back event (where the cops buy guns from people and then have them melted down) but only 15 were purchased because the people running the event didn’t have enough money to buy them all, and the people who brought them weren’t willing to give them up for free.

Organizers of a supposed gun buy-back had dozens of people lining up to turn in their weapons, although only 15 were collected today for the Denver Police Department to destroy and melt down.
Held at New Covenant Christian Church in Denver to raise awareness about gun violence, the gun buy-back turned into a gun give-back event when the program could not afford to pay $50 as initially advertised.
The Rev. Reginald Holmes, a pastor at the church, said about 40 people with a total of 120 guns showed up but were turned off to the idea of just donating their guns.
β€œIt’s a tough economy, people want an incentive,” Holmes said.

I wonder how many of the guns were stolen for the express purpose of being sold at this event?
It’s a legitimate question to ask.
$50 is not a lot of money for even the most basic of firearms. Unless these guns were unworkable junk (in which case, why buy them back?) most were probably worth well over $50 and could have been sold with just a little bit of effort to someone else. The only guns that would make sense to sell at an event like this would either be, again, junk guns or guns that were stolen.
Given gun control laws, it’s not easy to sell stolen guns. The government takes it very, very seriously. So if you want to traffic in stolen guns, what better fence than the cops themselves? You bring your stolen weapons, and usually (this event aside) they give you cash for them. No questions asked.
In fact, I wonder how many guns used to commit crimes have turned up at these events to be destroyed.
Regardless, gun buy back programs are based on the premise that we can eliminate crime by eliminating guns. But as has been demonstrated again and again, the presence of guns does not correlate to greater amounts of crime. There are other causes for crimes, and if we want to solve the crime problem we’d do well to quit wasting our time trying to be rid of guns.

I believe that most, if not all, of these programs guarantee immunity from prosecution for all participants. As far as anyone checking the turned in firearms for previous criminal use and/or alteration ; I recall reading on one occasion of a firearm being turned in in , I believe Boston ? , that was traced to crime. Other than that instance I’ve not read or heard of any others. One would suspect that were it common the people whom run these programs would be trumpeting the news to everyone to indicate the value of these programs. That such news is not reported is indicative of the uselessness of these programs. Not unlike guncontrol in general they accomplish nothing beneficial to society.

Yeah, I think of that anytime I go to the swap meet. People who are wanting to sell things aren’t capitalists…they are thieves. Because that’s what Rob thinks of when he thinks of America and capitalism.

I have always been intrigued by the concept that a murdering robbing thug will just turn in his gun for smokes if you only asked nicely.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

And still waiting for all that proof that guns at “swap meets” are stolen.

Maybe just the ones he brings? He could be speaking from personal experience? (There’s a first time for everything! )

I wonder if they do a thorough serial number check on any of these guns?

No one can know what another is thinking, feeling nor looking at. Only liberals believe that they have this special power. Honest people who hold CWPs have undergone background checks. They are the good guys.

    These are the bad guys:

(and might have had some criminal history)

Worse are the gangs who murder without remorse.

Just think of a gun like a fire extinguisher. It is used immediately before the fire engine/police cruiser arrives.

If you want to turn in guns, you don’t exactly need a special event to do it. Any police department will take unwanted guns off your hands for free.

This came up recently for me when a family member passed away and he had some weapons that I didn’t want (and might have had some criminal history). I just called the local PD, explained the situation, and brought them in.

Note: proper way to handle this procedure is not to walk in waving the firearms saying “I’ve got guns”. Leave them in your trunk and give an officer the keys.

“It’s a tough economy, people want an incentive,” Holmes said.

How about an income tax cut? That’s always been a great incentive for me!

And still you have no information of the difference between intensifier tubes both within the same generation and next generation.

    So sad, and unmanly.

  • 2Hotel9

We know what is in your mind, boob. You spew it into threads all the time.

And a bit more of sanni’s spittle spatters its screen.

  • AR-15

Im sure this buy back would have stopped a lot of crime in Denver. LOL!!!

  • Hannitized

Ha! That is funny as hell Rbb. You’re going to cause these guys to “duck and cover”, with those fly-bye’s.

  • 2Hotel9

OK, sanni, where is your proof that stolen guns are routinely sold at “swap meets”, whatever the hell those are?

Chief, do you think it hypocritical to claim one thing can’t be done and and then do it yourself?

Rob, your problem is that you don’t realise what every good liberal does.

It is not the gun that causes the crime. It is the demons that inhabit the guns that take control of the gun owner and causes them to commit crimes.

Only by outlawing possession of guns can we prevent our more vulnerable citizen from being drawn into a life of crime.

And there is sanni, adding its bit of drool. Nice.
