Great Britain To Ban Big Screen Televisions Because They Cause Global Warming
I’ve often said that, for many policy makers, global warming is less about saving the planet than it’s about having an excuse to control every single aspect of your life from what you drive to where your home’s temperature is set at. In Great Britain we’re getting indications of just how true this is as the government seeks to ban big screen televisions in the name of global warming.
Energy-guzzling flatscreen plasma televisions will soon be banned as part of the battle against climate change, ministers have told The Independent on Sunday.
“Minimum energy performance standards” for televisions are expected to be agreed across Europe this spring, they say, and this should lead to “phasing out the most inefficient TVs”. At the same time, a compulsory labelling system will be drawn up to identify the best and worst devices.
The moves, which follow last week’s withdrawal of the 100W incandescent lightbulb, are part of a drive to slow the rapid growth of electricity consumption in homes by phasing out wasteful devices and introducing more efficient ones. Giant plasma televisions – dubbed “the 4x4s of the living room” – can consume four times as much energy as traditional TVs that used cathode ray tubes (CRTs).
If you’re thinking this isn’t something that can happen in America, keep in mind that Obama himself said during the campaign that “We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.” The global warming hysterics have decided that everything we do, from driving to work in the morning to raising cattle for food to breathing, causes global warming and they intend to leverage that conclusion to rob you of your freedom.
Here in America, we like to say that this is a “free country.” Yet if you can’t drive the sort of vehicles you want, or set the temperature in your home where you want it or even buy the sort of television you want are we really free?
