Grand Forks Councilman and State Representative Inappopriately Bringing Up Historical Violence Against Replacement Workers

I’m shocked again.

Grand Forks City Councilman and State Representative had this letter in the paper about how after the union and their allies staged an attack on non union workers Andrew Carnegie somehow saw the error of his ways.

He brought a private army of 300 from the Pinkerton Detective Agency on barges up the Monongahela River.

They were met by thousands of workers and many sympathizers from the town of Homestead, who fought a pitched battle from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. before the Pinkertons surrendered.

It seems to me that the last thing we need is elected leaders finding benefits in union violence is the last thing we need right now. Union workers are out of work and emotions are running high.

I have friends on both sides of this matter and I hope that they can get this matter worked out. The last thing we need to be doing is putting the thought of violence into peoples’ heads.
