Governor John Hoeven Announces “New” Jobs Website That Really Isn’t All That New
North Dakota’s oil industry is booming. Because of that, North Dakota needs workers. Which means that North Dakota Governor John Hoeven needs to appear to be doing something to bring workers to the state. So what’s he do? He launches a new website to help people connect with jobs in North Dakota. The funny thing is that this “new” website is really just a domain that points to the old JobsND.com website that’s been up for years.
The new website is called FindJobsND.com. When you click it it goes to another domain called NDWorkforceConnection.com which looks like this:
JobsND.com, which is a website run by North Dakota Job Service that has been available (and advertised at the expense of our tax dollars) for years now, displays this when you click on it (the Job Service “Workforce Connection” website):
When you click on the “Find a Job” link you go to the NDWorkforceConnection.com website already pictured above.
And when you click “Find A Job” at NDWorkforceConnection.com? Why, you’re directed back to the old JobsND.com interface that’s been up and running through ND Job Service for years.
So basically what the Governor has done is spent North Dakota taxpayers on registering a new domain, designing a page to reside there, and then just linking that page to the existing online jobs database already being run for the state.
And for some reason he thinks this great accomplishment warrants a joint press conference with the head of North Dakota Job Service. Again, at the expense of the taxpayers.
Amazing.
The only question remaining is: Which one of Hoeven’s advertising buddies got the contract for this meaningless endeavor?
