Glenn Greenwald: Democrats Unpopular Because They Haven’t Investigated The President Enough
Because the 300 investigations Democrats launched in the first 100 days of Congress aren’t enough.
Because the 300 investigations Democrats launched in the first 100 days of Congress aren’t enough.
Glenn Greenwald is a hack who talks to himself. He is a crazy man and not to be taken seriously.
The Democrats are forgetting the first rule of politics, which is when you find yourself in a whole, stop digging.
Their real problem is they’ve broken nearly ever campaign promise they’ve made, and accomplished next to nothing. That’s a bit more substantial than whether they’ve completed 100 versus 200 dead-end investigations by now…
Their real problem is they’ve broken nearly ever campaign promise they’ve made…
Like the “Middle Class Tax Cut”.
If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.
Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!
I’m certain that it has nothing to do with the fact that they have discovered that they have no Constitutional or factual basis for any investigation they have launched.
The most misused and exploited political statistic is, far and away, the low (and rapidly shrinking) approval ratings for Congress.
That’s funny, it isn’t “the most misused and exploited political statistic” when we were referring to President Bush’s approval ratings. However, the same can be said about his ratings, most Conservatives are upset that we are not doing more by way of Iraq.
The problem is that the Democrats confused manufactured anger (about the war) with some sort of mandate.
But I can’t stay angry at them. Their horrible poll numbers got me a picture of Nancy Pelosi clearing brush at her San Francisco ranch!
The democratic party was advised if they were to ever achieve control again in Congress to NOT act out of revenge for all of the real or imagined slights against them by the GOP. They obviously disregarded this advice and are now paying for it.
The people do not want to see partisan hacks attacking each other while simultaneously lining their pockets and driving the budget and deficit up. Of course this is when they are not obsessing on getting re-elected.
I would love to see what would happen if there were term limits and you had members of Congress who could act and not worry about being re-elected. Maybe good work would be the result and the citizens of this great nation wouldn’t consider their elected officials to be the pandering, partisan, and dirty boobs that most of us think they are now.
Oh well, just a pipe dream as nobody who ever got into that cushy, slimy business would ever voluntarily vote for something not in their personal best interests. Best interests of the country and its citizens be damned.
I would love to see what would happen if there were term limits and you had members of Congress who could act and not worry about being re-elected.
There’s only one way to get “term limits”: Never re-elect anybody. It’s up to us.

I don’t see the problem with Greenwald’s reasoning; are you seriously suggesting that Democrats are displeased with the Congress because they haven’t capitulated enough to President Bush?
jpe: I think the problem with his “reasoning” is that Congress could hardly have investigated the President any more than they have.
If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.
Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!
You don’t mean the Glenn Greenwald, the notorious sock puppeter who poste comments under aliases to support his position, do you? Oh yeah, we can trust what he says!!!???
One of the most important talents for success in politics is the ability to make utter nonsense sound not only plausible but inspiring. Barack Obama has that talent. We will be lucky if we escape the catastrophes into which other countries have been led by leaders with that same charismatic talent.
-Thomas Sowell
DD: I don’t know if trust comes into it at all, in this case; what he is saying just doesn’t make sense.
If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

“I don’t see the problem with Greenwald’s reasoning; are you seriously suggesting that Democrats are displeased with the Congress because they haven’t capitulated enough to President Bush?”
Why yes, that’s exactly what he is saying. How clever of you to figure that out. After all, there are only two choices. Continue to “investigate” OR capitulate to the President. It isnt like they have any control over the budget or anything and could possibly do their freaking jobs, and cut out the earmarks and all the petty crap. Good catch JPE.
Oh and I think the rule of thumb with Greenwald is, take whatever he says, invert it. Then you have the truth.
It’s not the number of investigations but that the investigations have been fruitless.
Those nut-jobs believe all the false rhetoric of the Democrats’ campaigns about Bush being, basically, the anti-christ and are demanding he be deposed.
The investigations have been fruitless because there are no crimes there, just like the Plame debacle.
If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea that people are disappointed because there isn’t enough investigation. Common sense & Greenwald both tell us that the Dems have failed on two key issues: changing course in Iraq; and restoring the FISA framework.
Has anyone noticed that LIKWIDSHOE embedded a commercial link to “crazy” in his posting of Aug 21, 2007 at 09:39 PM? Is this allowed on PJM? Is it ethical?
...restoring the FISA framework.
You mean restoring the Clinton lack of ability and will to surveil and fight terrorism, don’t you?

I clicked on the link and got a Google page about Glenn Greenwald’s sock puppetry.

Well Rob, thanks for misconstruing Greenwald’s argument and making it clear you failed to read his post. Your post is both brief and useless.
I’m confused.
According to this site, is the congressional Democrats’ popularity down because they are bringing to light the infinite array of Bushian criminal activities?
Or are the Democrats unpopular because they have failed to convict any of the Bushian criminals they have investigated?
I’m all for more investigations. The more Congress focuses on effete posturing designed to make the MoveOn.org crowd orgasm, the less time they have to pass laws that make our lives less free, less safe, and less fun.
Hey, Greenwald made note of your post, and liked to this thread:
http://salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/08/22/fantasies/index.html
Glenn Reynolds linked to this post (* note, this thread) conclusorily mocking my analysis of Congress’ unpopularity by suggesting that Congress has investigated far more than most Americans want. And Reynolds himself then added: “YEAH, THAT’S THE TICKET: Why’s Congress polling so badly? Because they haven’t launched enough investigations. Uh huh.”
All of these “analysts,” making the same point (one heard frequently on television), have one thing in common: namely, not one of them cited a single piece of evidence, poll, or anything else to support their claim that Americans dislike investigations and/or that Congress is unpouplar due to too many hearings or too much obstructionism. Instead, they just literally make that up and then say it without having any idea if it’s true.
Feel free to read the rest of the article, but a bit of advice, he absolutely rips your premise into shreds.
I see a lot of hating, but very little (no?) analysis. Leaving aside Greenwald’s analysis, what do you think of the polls he cites? We already know that Republicans hate the Democrats—that’s a given. But what makes you think Democrats and Independents disapproval of Democrats is based on too many investigations? What’s the evidence say?
We already know that Republicans hate the Democrats—that’s a given.
Not true at all; Republicans and conservatives disagree with Dems on the most basic issue: the value and primacy of individual independence. It’s the Dems who hate Republicans and conservatives for the same reason radical Islam hates us: We won’t submit to them.
The only real “given” is BDS.
If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

No matter how much they investigate, the existence of “Bushian criminals” fails to materialize. They are dying of frustration, while wasting our time and money with their childish and impotent rage against the President.

Yup! I’d want to run from Greenwald, too, if I was you!
Funny how people’s actions live on after them! Ollie North was convicted of three felony counts in 1989 which were all vacated in 1990, but as recently as last year we still see this:
Convicted Criminal Oliver North Attacks Journalists In Iraq
Convict-turned-columnist Oliver North struck back at comments by CNN
Maybe it will take a while for Mr. Greenwald to get his credibility back after playing sycophantic sock puppet with himself so recently! (Sixteen years isn’t really so long to wait!)

Glenn Greenwald should stick to using sockpuppets to build his legend in the comments sections of conservative blogs.
for Google, you can’t say this enough:
Glenn Sockpuppet Greenwald, Glenn Greenwald & sockpuppets, Glenn “sockpuppet farmer” Greenwald, etc.
Here are some sample headlines y’all could use:
Greenwald “darned” by critics!
Greenwald spins yarn of well heeled Democrats
Greenwald shoe in for Pulitzer Prize
Kukla, Fran and Greenwald make triumphant return to TV
You’re welcome!

Nice parody. I’m sure that even asstrix knows that Greenwald couldn’t find his sock puppet’s ass with both hands!
karrsic:
But what makes you think Democrats and Independents disapproval of Democrats is based on too many investigations? What’s the evidence say
Sure, karrsic, we’d all rather see a long series of pointless investigations that amount to little more than political posturing, than congress actually say accomplishing anything legislatively. What do you think?
Green Glennwald is always right. IT HAS TO BE TRUE! I mean Green Glennwald was quoted on the Senate floor!
Freedom Fighter said, Has anyone noticed that LIKWIDSHOE embedded a commercial link to “crazy” in his posting of Aug 21, 2007 at 09:39 PM? Is this allowed on PJM? Is it ethical?
The blog does that. It’s allowed and it’s certainly ethical for the blog owner to decide to insert advertisements.
jpe, RonnieA. - learn to avoid the either/or trap. The world is rarely that black and white. There is oftentimes more than two possible answers.
Xanthippas - are you one of Greenwald’s sock puppets?
karrsic - I see a lot of hating…
Where’s the hating? Point it out please.
We already know that Republicans hate the Democrats—that’s a given.
You’re projecting. Maybe this projection is the “hating” you think you saw earlier.
