Giuliani Swore He’d Never Root For The Red Sox

Breaking promises before he even gets elected.

Maybe the Devil made him do it.
Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani declared himself a Red Sox fan on Tuesday, but as recently as last summer he vowed never to trade his Yankee soul to the Sox – even for the White House.
Last July, The Providence Journal asked the former mayor this fateful question: If the Devil said you can be President if you become a Red Sox fan, would you do it?
“I’m a Yankee fan,” Giuliani replied then. “I always believe it’s a sign of my being straight with people, about not wanting to fool them, that I was one of the first mayors to be willing to say I was a Yankee fan.”
He went on to say he had “great respect” for true Red Sox fans, but as for becoming a Red Sox cheerleader in a Devil’s bargain, “Probably that’s a deal I could not make,” he said.

Turns out it is a deal he could make.
All joking aside, there are some serious implications here. Who you root for in baseball is inconsequential as far as politics, but breaking promises even about sports teams speaks to character I think.

Whoever wins the Series, it certainly isn’t going to be because of the support, however half-assed, of any of the presidential candidates.

well, now there’s rumors he’s changed his position on partial birth abortion. I bet nobody’s gonna call him a flip flopper.

Or maybe, I hope, people realize that people do change, God forbid! Sometimes even for the better! Yes, the president is a leader, but beware more so those who are adamant about NEVER changing their mind.

Seems like you’re reaching pretty far to dislike Giuliani, Rob… almost like you’d take any reason :)

He didn’t break any promise. He said he would root for the Sox in the WS because he is an AL fan. That does not make him a Sox fan. The previous question implies that he would root for the Sox over any other team, including the Yankees.
