Giuliani No Longer The Apparent GOP Nominee

Fred and Rudy are running neck and neck.

The perception that Rudy Giuliani is the most electable Republican may be slipping a bit.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 66% of Republicans believe that Giuliani at least somewhat likely to win the White House if nominated. That’s down from 72% a month ago.
Sixty-one percent (61%) of Republican voters now say that Fred Thompson is at least somewhat likely to win in nominated. That’s up from 57% last month.
The gap between Giuliani and Thompson virtually disappears at a higher level of confidence—23% of Republican voters say that Giuliani is Very Likely to win if nominated while 22% say the same about Thompson.

What’s particularly interesting is that when Thompson and Giuliani are matched up, respectively, against the most likely Democrat nominee the results (which aren’t linkable on Rasmussen’s site, unfortunately) are nearly indistinguishable.
Thompson vs. Clinton
Thompson: 44
Clinton: 44
Giuliani vs. Clinton
Giuliani: 45
Clinton: 43
By the way, Romney gets thumped by Hillary is this match up 48 – 36.
I’ve heard a lot of Republicans talking about how Giuliani is the most “electable” candidate in the GOP field. I don’t think that’s true, and I think Republicans are waking up to that fact. Fred holds his own just as much as Giuliani does in a head-to-head match up with the top Democrat in the field, plus he doesn’t come with Giuliani’s negatives. Like being pro-choice and having a long history of being in favor of gun control. Not to mention multiple nasty divorces, and this.
And this too.

I mentioned neither “Rudi” nor Mitt… and what about Jon McCain?

    What did I miss? lol

In the newest Rasmussen National Poll, Romney is now within 8 points of Giuliani and just 3 points of Thompson.

Considering that Rudy is one of the most recognizable men on the planet and a genuine hero of 9/11 and Fred has played a string of “tough but fair” good guys on TV and movies for 20 years, ole Mitt ain’t doin half bad.

Add to that his 14 point lead in Iowa and his 7 point lead in NH as well as all the endorsements he is now getting from the evangelical base and I think we have our winner.

HERE’S HOW IT ALL TURNS OUT:

Right now, Giuliani has the moderate Republican vote all to himself. That means that Mitt, Fred and Huckabee splitting the remaining evangelical base vote.

Ok, Huckabee is a nice guy but he has no chance. He will be finished after the first week of primaries.

That leaves Mitt and Fred splitting the remaining evangelical vote. Right now, Mitt has the momentum with leading evangelical endorsements.

Right now, the only early Primary Fred looks to even possibly win is SC and his lead there is tenuous at best. Romney has him by 17 in Iowa and NH. If Romney crushes Fred in those first two contests, Romney will scoop up all the right-wing base support and blow right past Giuliani.

I really would like to vote for Fred Thompson.

There is just that little thing about his having NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER DOING THE THINGS A PRESIDENT DOES that nags at me a bit.

Fred Thompson has never run anything. How do we know he will be able to handle the pressures of leadership at this level?

Rudy has managed at a high level. Mitt has managed at a high level. Fred? Not so much.

Are we really ready to hire someone who has never done the job before?

    I’m not.

Turns out that Giuliani just came out in favor of allowing blind people to carry guns. So if you can see, and you’re in New York City, you should be disarmed, but if you’re blind as a bat, but live across a couple of borders in new Hampshire, fire away.

And Fred? Personally, I kinda like the idea of a President who hasn’t gotten used to being there. Maybe he could say “sorry, folks, but I’m tired, so I’m going to veto your Mickey Mouse legislation without reading it.” Media would throw a hissy fit, but I’d be cheering him on.

Only thing I’ve really got against him is his work for McCain/Lenin/Feingold.

Sorry I misspelled Rudy’s name! It’s just that every time I think about war hero John McCain, I just get all excited! Even though he’s not my first choice as a candidate!

As it is now, I’d like to see Fred for pres with Rudy as his VP.

I really would like to vote for Fred Thompson.

Then you mentioned Rudi and Mitt…how about war hero John McCain?

Giuliani is the worst possible candidate for this country. He is the exact same thing as GWB, if not worse! If you look at the unbiased sources of media (mainly online) you can see that he gets very little support. Online Study

I would think if Fred can get it together he would do a lot better than Rudi will in the South. I get a hair ball in my through when I thinhjk of the prospects of voting for rudi.

Fred has a lot of convincing to do… Since his announcement, he hasn’t excited and he certainly hasn’t met the high expectations that he set for himself waiting longer than the rest of the field.

I like him, I like his positions, but he has to start exciting a bit and he has to shake the whole “Grandpa” feel that he gives off when he talks… He already looks like my grandpa, at least he could stop acting and talking like him too.. PLEASE!
