German Soldiers Are Too Fat

A rather sad state of affairs for what was once one of the world’s most powerful military forces.

But, as is noted in the post linked above, this is what happens when you live in the shadow of a superpower.  What point is there to keep a strong military when your allies the Americans keep one of their own?

Rob, I would say that it’s worse that just not needing to field a real military.  I would suggest that they can’t afford to field a real military and fund all of their social programs at the same time.  To give you a comparison, we spend about 20% of our GDP on our federal government. Germany spends closer to 45% on theirs, but only 3% of their federal expenditures on their military.  Most of the rest for them goes towards social programs.

I’d love to be in a position where we could drop the 20% of our budget that we spend on the military (Germany only spends.  Of course, I’d love to drastically reduce the 65% we spend on entitlement spending as well…

The thought of a resurgent German
military isn’t a delight for Europeans.

It’s a conscript army without a purpose.  Should we be surprised?

Maybe President Obama will bring all the troops home, including the ones in Germany.  Then we’ll see if the fat guy can goose step.

How is that possible?  Belgium was a neutral country in both wars!

Thank God that all we have to do to avoid fighting is get rid of our militaries, like the lefties want us to do.

I don’t see the point in the US maintaining a military presence overseas,at least in Europe. We won WWII, we won the Cold War. Europe is under no military threat that they can’t handle. It’s just useless spending.
