Friend of Kent Conrad Indicted

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Let’s now listen to the silence from the Forum “news” properties.

The federal government charged Countrywide Financial CEO Angelo Mozilo and two other executives with civil fraud Thursday, which ensures that Dodd, who has been accused of getting a sweetheart mortgage deal from the company, will be forced to contend with another round of negative press coverage.

That’s Chris Dodd they’re talking about.  The funny thing is that Kent Conrad got the same kind of preferential loan after Mozilo put him on his “Friends of Angelo” list.  The list was made to do special favors for influential politicians.

Kent Conrad, caught red handed, told at least three different stories about how he obtained the loan.  He claims that he didn’t know he was getting the special “Friends of Angelo” deal but that story is disputed by a Countrywide insider.

Conrad used his position as Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee to facilitate bailouts that benefited Countrywide (the largest player in the mortgage market.)

And now Conrad’s friend is indicted.  So far Conrad’s escaped scot free because the ND media (aside from Scott Hennen and this blog) have kept ND’s citizens from knowing about it.

Who wants to bet that they minimize Conrad’s involvement if they even mention it at all?  They have time to run stories on Congressman Pomeroy’s engagement but no time to let North Dakota’s citizens know what our Senator is doing.
