Free Speech Is Fading Away In Canada

That the Canadian government is letting foolishness like this go on is an indictment of that country’s claim to be a free society, and rather ironic given that it’s coming from America’s often-smug northern neighbors who are fond of deriding our lack of tolerance and enlightenment.

Freedom doesn’t just mean you have the right to say whatever you want (within the bounds of libel/public nuisance/copyright laws), but that you also have to tolerate the things other people say that you might find disagreeable or offensive.

ChiefRZ,

you might be right but I thought that was in England…

then again I could be wrong…

I may be a Canadian ( and a conservative ) but I do not pretend to know about all the weird things liberals have done to my country, who can keep track anyway?

Liberals have created thousands of little holes in Western nations to make them sink ever so slowly that most people do not even believe it is happening.

And the above case of an ex Canadian human rights courts employee trying to shut down conservative blogs is not only an example of a liberal creating one of those holes to sink the beautiful ship ( beautiful but not perfect ) that is Western civilization, but it is also a way of keeping people from informing us about what is really going on...a two birds with one stone thing for self loathing liberals.

The site you link to doesn’t indicate that Warman is suing Shaidle, Levant and others for defamation. I know that Canadian conservatives view Warman’s activities as part of the larger free speech issue but if Warman believes that statements made about him are untrue and defamatory then why shouldn’t he take his case to court?

I’ll let Ezra shed a little more light on this guy for you, Mike.

I know who he is and I understand the objection to his activities in some circles. What I don’t get is why Canada is less free because Warman has the right to sue those he believes have defamed him. This isn’t about shutting down Nazi sites which is Warman’s usual modus operandi, it’s about suing individuals he believes to have defamed him. I’m actually not a big Warman fan but the page Rob links to is misleading and thus Rob’s post is misleading as well.

IMO of course. This account is probably the clearest and fairest I’ve read on this lawsuit if you’re interested.

God Bless America
This is an example of why the First Amendment is perhaps the most precious “right” enumerated by the US Constitution because since it protects speech, by extension, it protects freedom of thought. This freedom is basic. It should never be overridden. If you have no freedom of speech, freedom of thought is meaningless because it cannot be expressed. This is a fundamental right granted to us as human beings. Anyone who seeks to control your thoughts and speech seeks to be a master and others become slaves.
I say, monkey see ... monkey do, and people need to start counter suing this ass for infringement of personal rights

There is no such thing ‘freedom of speech’. Everything goes through censor. If they miss they either face a law suit or appologize.
