Towards the end of his speech, he makes an appeal to the Republicans who will vote, to consider the appeal of his candidacy to Democrats and Independents who will be voting in the general election as well. Not, “just consider me against the rest of the Republicans”, but keep your eye on the prize!
It was a good speech.

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Unfortunately, national security is not the major issue facing us. Radical Islam is not our biggest enemy.

Unfortunately, Fred missed the message when he went to church. We were given free will which puts us in charge of what happens on Earth.

Fred is, however, a good man, honest, believes what he says, and is running in order to serve his country. Your vote will not be poorly spent. It just won’t make the changes we need. Here is a good article that shows you where he’s coming from.

Two extremely untrue statements.

"One must regard his leftist opponent as a parent regards his recalcitrant child. Don’t give an inch in a debate with a leftist, and you’ll soon frustrate him to the point that he falls back to his default position. He’ll gainsay your every point. He’ll even resort to calling you names and accusing you of having suspect parentage.”

Proof,

A week before the Iowa Caucuses, your man Thompson tells a reporter that “he really has no great desire to run for President”.

THAT’S your guy?

Geesh man.  Thompson is averaging about 6% in the first 6 primaries.  As I said, EXPERIENCE COUNTS, he has none.

He will be done after NH if not Iowa.  Will be interesting to see who he endorses.

Fred Thompson: Nice Guy, Good Conservative, Terrible Candidate.

Bill Mitchell on December 31, 2007 at 05:57 am

God bless Fred!… He is the only true conservative running. That was a beautiful speech.

Zsa Zsa on December 31, 2007 at 06:17 am

He’s right when he says that the terrorists will not rest until a mushroom cloud hangs over one of our cities.

How is national security not a major issue?

Huchabee is a wach-job. Giuliani is a shameless self promoter. McCain will be lucky to live through a four year term and whoever he picks for VP will be president, Ron Paul is, well, a lunatic, and if you’re not suspicious of mega millionaire Mitt Romney’s motives for wanting to be president, you should be.

Thompson looks like the most sane of the bunch. If he says he has no great desire to be president then, good. Maybe that’s what we need instead of someone with a burning lust for that power.

Sorry for the above typos:

Huchabee is a wach-job

Just for clarity, I meant to say that Huckabee is a wack-job.

Don’t want any confusion about how I see the guy.

As I said, EXPERIENCE COUNTS, he has none.

The problem for your boy Romney though is that he has a record (his “experience")that conservatives are just not real excited about. I couldn’t be any less disappointed that Romney and Huck are leading in the polls...inspiring they are not.

Thompson is the only candidate who has offered conservative solutions and policy which in turn has been praised by those who know better.  I’ll take a principled conservative Senator over a moderate, tax raising, prisioner releasing, soft on immigration Governor any day.

Huckabees “experience” is politically moderate and subsequently far from conservative.  It seems more like a candidates ability to be elected Governor is somehow being confused with experience.  It may simply be that being elected to a Governor’s office makes that same one appear more electable as a President in the eyes of the electorate.  So, is “experience” really the issue?

I doesn’t appear to be.

Bill: That’s a good thing! (Obviously, you did not listen to the above video where he explained that remark! What a dunderhead! Feel free to comment whether you know what we’re talking about or not!)
As opposed to someone...let me pick a name out of the air...Al Gore? Who was the son of a Senator and grew up aspiring to do nothing but run for public office. Someone who lived his whole live trying to become president.
Do you really want some megalomaniac who lusts for power to be your next president? Or someone who could do the job but still walk away from it and be content?

Sounds to me like the guy you think should be president is more of a Castro or a Hugo Chavez than a Cincinnatus.

Ever hear of Cincinnatus, Bill? According to wiki:

Cincinnatus had settled into a life of farming and knew that his departure might mean starvation for his family if the crops went unsown in his absence. He assented to the request anyway and within sixteen days had defeated the Aequi and the Volscians. His immediate resignation of his absolute authority with the end of the crisis has often been cited as an example of good leadership, service to the public good, civic virtue, and modesty

Guess ol’ Cincinnatus had ”no great desire” to wield absolute authority as leader of his century’s superpower?

Come back when you have an argument (or an original thought!)

I believe Cicinnatus had the chance, or was offered, the position of Pro-Consul of Rome and not only resigned his generalship, he turned down the offer of ultimate power.

Little different from the power greedy, self-important, egotistic cadnidates of today, wouldn’t you say?

Someone who lived his whole live trying to become president.

Or consider that scion of virtue...Bill Clinton, who while dodging the draft was ever mindful of “trying to retain his political viability”. Class acts, all!

Talk is cheap, WETBACK. Care to back up ANY of that bullshit?

Who do you take your marching orders from? It’s obvious from the consistency of you comments that you are only repeating someone else’s talking points!

(See how easy it is to make unfounded, half-assed assertions about anybody? Where’s the proof ? Got any facts or just more mindless conspiracies?)

Bill Dyer over at BeldarBlog has a rather detailed explanation of his endorsement of Fred Thompson and why he is NOT supporting Mitt Romney. Interesting read!
