Fred Thompson Is Out Of The Race

I said as much after Saturday’s South Carolina primary results, but it’s about to become official tomorrow what with Fox News’ Carl Cameron reporting that Fred won’t be at Florida’s debate tomorrow.

It’s over, Fredheads. It was good while it lasted.
About the best thing conservatives can hope for at this point, I think, is Romney/Thompson. McCain may have the media in a trance right now, but Romney’s got the lead in delegates (early as it is), and with conservative big wigs like Rush Limbaugh and others having it out for McCain you’ve got to think things will swing his way.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I’m ever really going to warm to Romney and the conservative principles he found right before the primaries, but he’d be better than McCain. And having Thompson on board with him wouldn’t hurt.

Sorry, Fredheads. And I know you guys really love Fred.
And I know you don’t love Duncan Hunter – it really showed.

My dream ticket was Hunter/Tancredo. But it was pretty apparent early on that that had even less chance than a Ron Paul presidency.

Mitt is a socialist in sheep’s clothing, regardless of Bill Mitchell’s repeated idol worship. This is where and when the Republican party’s wheels come off for me. I will not vote for the front-runners that the party is fielding, and I am not alone.

Although Rob may be right I have sources who are either in denial or know Fred is not going to bow out…we’ll know tomorrow.

    I hate it when it does that. Here’s the link that it was supposed to paste;

I think I’ll wait until Thompson makes the announcement, hearing directly from the candidate’s mouth works for me better than hearing it from media’s assholes.

    Rob,

Here’s an interesting question for you:

How would you feel about Fred if he were to endorse McCain tomorrow?

Fox News’ Carl Cameron reporting that Fred won’t be at Florida’s debate tomorrow.

Perhaps because the debate is actually on Thursday..

And having Thompson on board with him wouldn’t hurt

Yes true even if RuPaul took him on as his VP mate. Bottom line is that no matter how much polish Fred lends, the turds still stink as badly.

    Rob,

Regarding Romney and his conservative principles, you may take some comfort in this:

Although Romney has danced between moderate and conservative in his politics thoughout the years, his LIFE has been PURE 100% UNTAINTED CONSERVATIVE:

    1. One wife that he still loves.
    2. Well-educated.
    3. Capitalist.
    4. Hard-working.
    5. Entrepreneurial and Successful.
    6. Great family. Five strong sons and not a one in any legal trouble or drug rehab.

Here is a man who has had the looks, money and power that would have corrupted most men, and yet, he has made Ward Cleaver look like a playboy by comparison. Even Romney’s harshest critics haven’t been able to turn up even a whiff of scandal.

So even though he has flipped and flopped a bit in his words, his LIFE has never strayed from the ideal of what CONSERVATISM stands for.

hmmm…next question is how do you vote “if that’s your best your best won’t do”?

Sorry, Fredheads. And I know you guys really love Fred.
And I know you don’t love Duncan Hunter – it really showed.

But my ideal team right now would be Mitt and Duncan.

I cannot believe you guys have never taken the connection between McCain and Fred very seriously.
I would have liked to think Fred’s character was at least as high as his Law and Order Character’s value system, as well – but there was John McCain, and Howard Baker, and Toady Chappaquiddick Kennedy, all right in the middle of it. Sorry, guys.

I think there is a great chance Thompson will bow out without endorsing anyone to keep his VP options open.

The MSM wants us to believe that the ONLY possible endorsement Thompson could give would be McCain. However, the fact that it is known to everyone, including Thompson, that his supporters DESPISE McCain and favor Romney, that seems unlikely.

Even Mort Kondrake (who has NO love for Romney) said tonight that Romney probably gets most of Thompson’s votes if he bows out. If that is true, the by Rasmussen’s numbers we are looking at Romney: 37, McCain: 20 in FL (or something like that).

During this process, there has been very little animous between Romney and Thompson other than the occasional “and I thought I was the only actor on stage” jab from Thompson. I can’t recall any time Romney actually went negative on Thompson at all.

Thompson considers McCain his friend but it is clear they differ greatly on politics whereas Thompson and Romney’s (current) politics are almost identical.

It’s too bad we can’t take a piece from each candidate and sort of create an uber-Fankenandidate, but since we can’t, Romney/Thomspon does have appeal – always my dream ticket (as well as the dream ticket of Central Casting).

Romney brings the EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE gravitas and Thompson brings the CONSISTENT CONSERVATIVE gravitas. Honestly, Thompson’s personality lends itself more to a VP role anyway as even he has admitted in the past.

We’ll see. Maybe Thompson will endorse McCain, but I would find that surprising, limiting his VP options and a BIG turnoff to his supporters.

…Rush Limbaugh and others having it out for McCain…

I don’t think anyone but McCain is responsible for his actions, like voting against the tax rate cuts(for reasons of class envy, to boot), McCain/Feingold and his vote for taxes a regulations designed to “fight global warming”, so simply reporting what he has done isn’t really “having it out for him”, is it?

  • http://disaffiliates.blogspot.com/ MPH

Giuliani/Thompson is still the most electable ticket nationwide.

I wouldn’t doubt that Romney would get Fredhead votes. If other Fredheads feel as I do about McCain and Huckabee, that’s the obvious choice.
