Fred Thompson Announces The Day He’ll Announce His Candidacy

It’s September 6th.  Yes, announcing the day he’ll be announcing is a little annoying giving all the build-up and teasing he’s done.

And that’s coming from a guy who’d really like to see Fred in the White House.

Avatar for Bill Mitchell

Fred Thompson,

Isn’t he just the Obama of the Republican Party?

He looks good, sounds good and says the right things, but what real world experience does he have to qualify him for the Presidency?

Has he ever governed anything bigger than a Senate office?
Has he authored any major legislation?
Has he ever run a Fortune 500 company?
Has he managed any operation (such as the Olympics for instance) of any size with any way of measuring his effectiveness?

No on all counts.  Just like Obama on all counts.

I can sum up Fred Thompson for you in two short sentences:

Nice Guy.
Not Qualified.

Considering the inevitable Donk candidate, those arguments aren’t necessarily going to carry the weight they would in another election cycle.

Lonely Federalist on August 30, 2007 at 05:04 pm

Fred and any of the Republican candidates are much better candidates than any of the Dems. The Dems are a bunch of socialist loving freedom limiting duds! AND that is the good stuff about them…

Zsa Zsa on August 30, 2007 at 05:14 pm

So ZZ, that means your standards of adultery take a pass with your republican candidates.

Puzzlefeet on August 30, 2007 at 05:45 pm

Puzzlefeet: I won’t talk for Zsa Zsa, but I don’t think she said she approves of adultery at all. Like me, she appears to view the Left as being dangerous to the future of America and most Republican candidates, personal failings and all considered, would be far preferable to any socialist Democrat.

Good. Now it gets interesting.

Mickey on August 30, 2007 at 06:31 pm

Adultry is not the problem. It is that Bill Clinton who was President of the USA chose to make the White House into a whore house.  IF he had chosen a less sacred place in which to carry on his affair? It wouldn’t have bothered me so much.

Zsa Zsa on August 30, 2007 at 06:34 pm

Zsa Zsa, I agree with you.  With all his money, he couldn’t afford a motel—-cheap or otherwise.  He defaimed the White House, the Office of the President of the United States and the morality of our country.  That is just the part about his lying under oath in court.  His other illegal activities and dereliction of duty are just as bad.  The shame of it is that he probably does not believe that he did anything wrong while conservatives are shocked at his flippant behaviors.

Do you guys anticipate that much more of a spike in the polls?

Why should we have less abortions if it’s not really killing someone?

So, Chief, it’s not ok for a president to be an adulterer but it’s ok for an adulterer to be president.

Puzzlefeet on August 30, 2007 at 07:07 pm

it’s not ok for a president to be an adulterer but it’s ok for an adulterer to be president.

All you do is spin, spin, spin.  This post makes about as much sense as the rest which means it is utter nonsense.  Anyway Billy boy was an adulter, a womanizer and a rapist long before he was president.

One of the most important talents for success in politics is the ability to make utter nonsense sound not only plausible but inspiring. Barack Obama has that talent. We will be lucky if we escape the catastrophes into which other countries have been led by leaders with that same charismatic talent.

Wait, are you saying that Fred Thompson is an adulterer Puzzled?  Because that’s news to me.

Care to back that up?

No Rob, that’s not what I’m saying. If you read the thread Clinton was brought up by ZZ and Chief and I responded with the statement as there are people running for office on the Rs that the statement applies to.

Can you tell me which Republican candidates are adulterers?

Rudy Giulani, Newt Gingrich (the uncandidate). Any more questions?

Puzzlefeet on September 1, 2007 at 11:40 am

Newt Gingrich isn’t a candidate and I’ve referenced his serial indiscretions as a reason why he’s not an acceptable candidate.  Giuliani’s adultery seems to be little more than accusations from a bitter ex-wife bent on revenge.  Granted, Giuliani hasn’t had a model domestic life though.

McCain’s infidelities are news to me, but I was never a McCain guy anyway.

Rob, he brought his mistress to Gracie mansion when his wife was still living there.  Pulease,Rob, just do a bit of reading.  Rudy doesn’t even deny it.  So please don’t claim a “bitter exwife” here.  What wife wouldn’t be bitter if the husband brought the mistress into their home.  Please!

Puzzlefeet on September 1, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Ted Kennedy is an adulterer and a killer.  Last I looked, he’s still the senior Senator from MA.

The only source for those allegations, as far as I can find, is Giuliani’s ex-wife.  And I’m not sure that ex-spouses are objective sources for this kind of thing.

I know you’re intellectually dishonest enough to buy into any nasty rumor spread about a Republican, but can you prove to me that Giuliani actually cheated on his second wife?  Because I don’t think you can.

Puzzle…Adultry wasn’t really the point of my comment. As far as I am concerned Bill Clinton and anyone else who cares to engage in that behavior is welcome to it. BUT NOT in the White House Oval Office! Do you not understand that point? It is common decency and respect for The citizens who put him in that office. He took advantage of his power. Bill Clintons head was so bloated for so many years of getting away with using his power to seduce or take advantage of women! Adultry? He got away with MUCH more than adutry… He has NO SHAME! AND individuals who continue sticking up for him, allow a sexual predator and scum bag to get away with taking advantage of WOMEN! WHERE ARE THE WOMENS RIGHTS GROUPS NOW?

Zsa Zsa on September 1, 2007 at 01:13 pm

ADULTERY! Sorry!...

You’re right Rob, the spouse certainly can’t be objective but that doesn’t make it untrue.

If you notice Rudy has not denied he had an marital affair with Judith.
