Fred Tells Rudy: America Is Not Represented By New York Alone

A brilliant shot from Fred:

BRISTOL, New Hampshire (AP) — Presidential hopeful Fred Thompson said Friday that New York City isn’t a model for the rest of the country and that Rudy Giuliani should stop basing his stances on his time as that city’s mayor.
Thompson, campaigning at a New Hampshire gun store with stuffed moose and deer overhead, told reporters that Giuliani too often turns to his time as New York mayor to explain his support for stronger gun restrictions.
“He relates everything to New York City. Well, New York City is not emblematic of the rest of the country, I don’t think. I think the sentiments of those people in the rest of the country are in support of the Second Amendment — which is where I’ve always been and I don’t think he’s ever been,” Thompson said.
The former Tennessee senator and “Law & Order” actor badly trails Giuliani in New Hampshire polls, in part because Thompson has spent so little time in the state. On Friday, he planned to attend a town hall-style meeting at a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall.

Fred’s spot-on. Rudy’s record is based on getting elected, and re-elected, in a city where citizens are not only anti-gun but pro-illegal immigration as well. And so Rudy’s past policies reflected that. Now he’s trying to get elected based on this policies, but most of the country isn’t anti-gun or pro-illegals. Just the opposite, which presents terrible problems for Giuliani.
I know we all like the guy after what he did during 9/11, but as conservatives when it comes to his actual record there’s just not a lot there to like.

This is the way it works. The more money you have, the better your chances of getting elected to public office.

The reason Rudy got elected and re-elected in New York is because of the same reason we have an illegal immigrant problem. Business wanted cheap labor.

Hatred for illegal immigrants by the general population in New York is quite a few decibels higher than it is anywhere else. The love of guns by the general population in New York is also quite a few decibels higher than most places.

You are laboring under a false belief that the general population is in charge of New York and this country.

If you visit http://www.realclearpolitics.com, you will find that every national non-partisan poll shows, again and again, that only one Republican candidate WINS every time over EVERY Democrat candidate: Rudy Guiliani! Why? Because he draws 25% or more of democrats to cross over… a number vital for a Republican to win. We can argue for the next 12 months over Guiliani’s conservative credentials – a nihilistic process every leftist liberal hopes for because they fear him most of all – but, if we cut off our noses to spite our faces, we will have a President Hilary or Obama or Edwards or Gore [yes, Gore!] in the White House and a solidly liberal congress at their disposal. Do any of us want any of them to be naming the next two or three Justices to the Supreme Court? [Rudy Guiliani has made it clear that his choices will be strict-constructionists!] Our conservative litmus test may well derail Guiliani. If that pleases you, so be it. But beware what you wish for….

I like Fred but we better unify behind whom ever gets nominated.

    Compromise for the greater good.

Rob… sorry, I am a bonafide McCain supporter, complete with cash. But, sad to say, John ain’t gonna win. Neither is Fred, neither is Ron and neither is Mitt. No poll at any time, anywhere ever showed Howard Dean defeating all Republican candidates. If I am a troll, then I am a moderate-conservative Republican troll. Despite our differences, we must get behind a winner and stop doing the left’s job for them. Rudy Guiliani is the one.

Mickey: “Compromise for the greater good.” You have hit the nail squarely on the head. Good for you! I am a frequent contributor to SAY ANYTHING and I have made it clear that we all must unite behind a winner. Would I be happy to have my favorite, John McCain, in the White House? Absolutely. I feel the same way about Fred Thompson. But its not going to happen. What I fear most is that we will end up choking on our conservative principles. Winston Spencer Churchill is my hero, because he had the principles that I admire most. But I remind myself every day that Neville Chamberlain had principles too. His principles led to the loss of over 20 million lives.

First time I agree with ews — though I’ve never actually voiced a disagreement (probably because his views are pretty innocuous).

The love of guns by the general population in New York is also quite a few decibels higher than most places.

Eh? Maybe in our “gangsta” neighborhoods. Otherwise, I don’t even know anyone who owns a gun, much less “loves” one. It’s actually pretty tough to get a gun in NY (at least for legal reasons).

None of the GOP candidates really have strong strategies. Thompson came from humble roots and rose to great heights. Now its time for him to return to those humble beginnins. Return to the people. He needs to break away from the traditional/conventional GOP type campaign. He’s not enthusiastic about what he’s being forced to do now. He needs to follow his instincts. DD

It’s about time we picked up a Rudy troll.

PP, if polls told the story every time Howard Dean would have been nominated by the Democrats in 2004. Or, in the general election, Kerry would have beaten Bush.

    Those things didn’t happen.

Supporting someone simply because he/she is Republican isn’t a good thing. We must have principles.
