Fox News Continues To Dominate In Ratings

Which isn’t exactly news, but the level to which they’re dominating is actually kind of astounding:

How’s this for cable news domination – Fox News beat CNN and MSNBC combined in every hour from 6am ET to Midnight ET in both Total Viewers and the A25-54 demo.
FNC had the top 11 cable news programs in Total Viewers and 12 of the top 15 in the demo. FNC is the #2 network in Total Viewers on all of cable.

Wow.
You’d think at some point CNN and MSNBC and the rest would get the point. Americans have more than enough liberally-slanted media. Clearly, Fox is filling a big demand. Maybe the other networks could peel off some of Fox’s audience by making their own programming more balanced.
That, in fact, would be better for news coverage in general and not just the bottom line of the other networks.

    theyd have to hire new employees and fire others. i dont think either place has even one real conservative working for them.

    From Bob’s source:

    The knowledge level by source is pretty interesting.

    As was the data that suggested that Republicans are more knowledgeable (26% in least knowledgeable category) than Democrats (31%) or Independents (36%).

    FOX has high cable ratings. Are you drawing a conclusion that the country is heavily conservative due to FOX’s ratings? I thought FOX was impartial? Fair and balanced? LOL

    At the same time, NPR is experiencing a jump in popularity and membership.

    What do these things mean? Nothing.

    What do they have to do with universal health care? Even less.

    Rbb,

    Let me help you with your first graph. First read the qualifier at the bottom:
    “Nationwide 35% of Americans score in the high knowledge catagory”

    Now consider the number of viewers to each news source. Rush Limbaugh has 14 million listeners and a 50 rating while the Daily show has about 1.5 million viewers with a 54 rating. The math alone would prove that with a national average of 35 it is easier to get a 54 with 1.5 than a 50 with 14.0. Fox News as a news station has many many more viewers. In other words, without more information the graph you posted isn’t very telling.

    They got rid of Alan Colmes – and if they can lose Geraldo FNC will be almost perfect!

    goon:

    I highly dough NPR which we have to pay for with our tax dollars is jumped that high.

    Facts:

    March 24, 2009

    NPR REACHES NEW AUDIENCE HIGH,
    AS LISTENERS SEEK IN-DEPTH NEWS ON ELECTION, ECONOMY

    33 MILLION LISTEN TO NPR MEMBER STATIONS WEEKLY;
    ALL NPR NEWS PROGRAMS SET AUDIENCE RECORDS

    ALL THINGS CONSIDERED JUMPS 15% TO 13 MILLION WEEKLY;
    MORNING EDITION FIRST PUBLIC RADIO PROGRAM TO TOP 14 MILLION; TALK OF THE NATION INCREASES LISTENING BY 21%;
    FRESH AIR FIRST MIDDAY SHOW TO TOP 5 MILLION

    March 24, 2009; Washington, D.C. — Following an unprecedented year in news dominated by the presidential election and global economic crisis, listening to NPR programming on NPR Member stations reached new highs according to just-released Arbitron ratings for Fall 2008*. NPR programming now reaches 27.5 million listeners weekly, representing 7% year over year growth. Total listening to NPR stations grew by 6 percent to reach a high of 32.7 million listeners weekly. Many individual stations also posted record high audiences during this ratings period.

    The latest ratings continue steady audience growth on NPR and the stations since 2000, and bolster public radio’s standing as audiences seek in-depth news and information on the issues that matter most….

    goon, does that assuage your dough that NPR is jumped that high?

  • cramer

    RBB’s graphs seem to support the point I was hoping to make. Fox, being a TV station represents only one way of getting your news. Personally I think TV in general is a relatively poor way of getting news or of spending your time for that matter. Rob’s story doesn’t represent the whole spectrum well at all. Sure MSNBC and such are pretty left leaning now. But to say that Fox isn’t right leaning? What???

    The people who watch FOX news don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.

    The people who watch Fox news DINO are better informed, more
    intelligent, and prone to make up their minds for themselves.

    Unlike the koolaid drinkers on the your side. What flavor you drinking today?

    Hey Dino do you EVER back anything you say up with facts. I highly dough NPR which we have to pay for with our tax dollars is jumped that high.

    Fox does news…the others do lib propaganda.

    Um, sure. Their shamless promotion of the teabaggers was so, er, balanced.

    The people know the difference.

    The people who watch FOX news don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.

    On a recent thread about universal health care, Dino said:

    “All civilized countries have universal health care.

    You might as well try stopping the sun from coming up if you think you can stop health care reform.”

    So where is his inane crowing about how good Fox is since everyone likes them? Oh… that’s right… since Fox isn’t wacko liberal they’re the enemy. Apparently, popularity only counts when the popular cause agrees with Dino’s fundamentalism.

    Dino2 on April 28, 2009 at 03:59 pm

    “Universal Health Care” equals “rationed” health care. Rationed health care equals the government deciding who gets treated and how long you will wait if the government allows you to be treated. Life style will come into play as a cost effective factor. The ones that are waiting for “universal health care” will also be waiting for treatment, for a long time.
