The lingering question in the Sherrod controversy is who ordered her firing. Secretary Tom Vilsack says it was his decision, but other reports suggest otherwise.

Vilsack’s predecessor, former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer, was on Fox and Friends this morning and said that it isn’t unusual for cabinet members to “take the fall” for the President and that it was “clear” to him that Sherrod’s firing was coordinated with the White House.

Update: Apparently the Obama administration has now apologized to Sherrod. But if they aren’t the ones who canned her, then what are they apologizing for?
