For Those Of You Having Problems With The New Commenting Feature And Avatars

Some of you have had some difficulty with the new commenting feature. I’ve been trying to help as much as I can, but I admit that I’m learning as I go as well.
First, let me say that the avatars problem should be fixed. The next time each of you comments on the blog your SAB avatar should populate and you’ll be able to see them.
Aside from that, one major problem seems to be reconciling SAB commenting accounts with Disqus commenting accounts. If you are registered here on Say Anything you are automatically registered with Disqus. The problem is that you may not be able to set your avatar, etc. To fix that, do this:
1. Go to Disqus and register for a new account.
2. Once you are registered and logged in to Disqus, click this link and enter the email address you used when you registered on SAB. If you have multiple emails and can’t remember which one you used just claim them all. This will put all comments you’ve made with that email under your account.
3. Once you’ve got your comments claimed, you can change your avatar and other settings in your profile on Disqus. You can also link your commenting profile to Facebook and Twitter as well as manage your email subscription settings. Remember that you can now respond to comments here on the blog simply by replying to the emailed comment notifications (very handy on a Blackberry, I can tell you).
If you have any problems post them in the comments here and I’ll help as much as I can.

OK, apparently of the 116 emails I got yesterday half are repeats from 6 days ago. Checked Wifey’s and Boy’s email and they didn’t get any repeats, so I guess it is not an Outlook bug.

i dont think it will…. kind of odd how a blog would want to make posting HARDER rather than easier.

im guessing rob is getting some cash for this. thats cool, but his users (short term certainly) might go down. i know i wont be here near as much as prior. there are LOTS of free html layouts that kick ass over what he had before and DOMINATE what he has now.

Some bugs? Hell, this has been a breeze compared to a couple of other upgrades here.

Once I got into Disqus I had no problems. I didn’t use most of the functions before, just links really.

Commenting is already far more brisk than before and if you’d take a minute to learn you’d find the new system isn’t any harder. Just different.

This added a lot of new features. You can comment by replying to email.
Also, from my end, it is much easier for me to moderate spam which was a
growing problem (though you guys may not have noticed it). And I’ve got a
good filter now for editing out some of the cursing which was getting a bit
excessive.
Also, the ability to connect comments here to Twitter, Facebook, etc. is
very big for those who use those things.

It’ll grow on you. Just give it some time.

Just curious, do you have any sort of mirroring type setup happening while you’re working this out? There seems to be some weird stuff happening to the site if you log in the traditional way then log out…comments appear one way and disappear thye other, and vise versa.

Looks like if you log in the traditional way and spend any time the comment count goes up on various threads. If you log out and refresh the count seems to go back down on some threads and the recent comments column changes accordingly. It might be limited to my end. That’s why I was curious if you’re mirroring anything.

For some reason the avatars pulled over from the blog get blurry. If you follow the instructions above to register at disqus and claim your old comments you should be able to upload the avatar again so it’ll show up better.

Well Disqus is external to the blog. You may just be seeing a lag in the

The new system sucks. You can’t access comments on a mobile. The old html tag system was great. This system doesn’t have one.

The upshot for the conservatives is that I dislike the new system so much, I don’t come here as often.
