This is the single most terrifying think I have read or heard in the last couple of days.

I guess the SAB audience expects Obama to be Santa Clause and everywhere at once.

Do you really think that we can continue to abuse and misuse those men and women who have served honorably for 8 years while you sat back and chewed your curd. I wonder what country you plan to run to when you are called to duty. The re-up rates are just numbers. Numbers can be manipulated to justify or deny anything.
Why is it ironic that I support the draft? I served for 20 years in the Air Force, including Viet Nam. I was not drafted. So since you have no military experience, why don’t you just shut up. From an intellectual point of view, I do not support the draft. From a common sense point of view, it only makes since given the current situation. It’s funny how you Conservatives are so in favor of a volunteer military. But, I guess that’s the elitist cowardly way.

To those of you foolish enough to impugn the recipients of a Medal of Honor (Dino, Jack, etc.), you might want to read up a little about the people who’ve received them. Most of them are dead or heavily wounded, killed or wounded in action trying to save their comrades through acts of total sacrifice and heroism. They did this voluntarily so that ball-less idiots like you can spout of in freedom and comfort. If a time ever comes that you are in harm’s way, pray that someone with the honor and character of one of these heroes is near you, they might just save your worthless ass too!

God bless and keep each and every one of these heroes, and God save the USA from idiots like you and your leader.

So I became curious because the only two sources were two blogs and one source that consisted of initials. Therefore, I did what any rational person would do: I contacted the American Legion to get the straight story from the people who would know. I was put in contact with a very pleasant gentleman named Craig Roberts who is the American Legion’s Media Relations Manager and after our conversation he e-mailed me this statement which I will include in its entirety:

The American Legion, as it has on every inauguration evening since 1953, hosted the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Banquet & Ball on January 20th. The quadrennial event is co-sponsored with fourteen veterans service and military service organizations and honors recipients of the Medal of Honor. Forty-seven of these heroes attended this year’s event which was held in the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel.

President Obama was invited but did not attend. Vice-President Joe Biden did appear, however, and was very warmly received. The new President’s absence was understandable considering the unprecedented logistical challenges presented by the vastly increased number of visitors to this inauguration and the necessary attendant security measures. The American Legion, as an organization, does not feel offended or “snubbed.”

Your bitterness ill becomes you. The old “chickenhawk” argument is intellectually dishonest. One does not fault people for their support or thoughts on law enforcement or fire protection because they do not serve in those fields, which can also be dangerous.

For you to assume or posit that all conservatives are “cowardly” because they support an all volunteer service is an unreasoned prejudice on your part. It would make as much sense as saying “All liberals are draft dodgers” which is also clearly not true.

The all volunteer military has served this country well. Conservatives suspect that perhaps, some of those who see the military as a less than higher calling, may prefer to use the draft purely for political purposes that could interfere with the strong defense of our country.

Not outside of what he has done in the past. Says one thing does another. I am sure he does not even know what a Medal of Honor recipient is. To his credit, it was reported that he did go to Walter Reed Hospital and visit with some wounded soldiers. Get use to the confusion. He is just as confused.
