Focusing On The Wrong Thing

Police Use Pepper Spray at Bush Inauguration
WASHINGTON (Reuters)Police used pepper spray to disperse demonstrators who hurled debris and tried to break through a security fence keeping protesters away from President Bush’s inaugural parade Thursday.
Several dozen protesters thronged toward the security fence, lobbing bottles, trash and snowballs at police, witnesses said. More than 100 police officers were at the scene where hundreds of protesters had gathered.
A small group of anti-Bush demonstrators overturned several of the metal security barricades, and a handful of protesters broke through.
Witnesses said they saw police use pepper spray against some of the protesters.

I think a much more accurate headline would be “Thuggish Protesters Attack Police, Security.”
I mean, how many times are they going to mention the pepper spray? As though the police had done something wrong by using it. Jeez. Its in the headline, the opening paragraph and the fourth paragraph. Shouldn’t the focus be on the asshole protesters who were breaking down barricades and throwing garbage around?
These people were trying to push through the barricades to get at the President. Who knows what they would have done had they gotten through? For crying out loud, look at what these people were doing:

Also along the route toward the White House, protesters set a small fire close to the barricades.
The motorcade sped up as it passed the commotion.

Left-wing politics or not, there is no excuse for this kind of behavior. They deserved the pepper spray.

They deserved a hell of a lot worse than pepper spray. Take these people and throw them in jail. The First Amendment never is or was supposed to protect violent speech. They set fires, assaulted police, these are unlawful activities…doing them in protest does nothing to change that.
