Floridian Democrats Counted As One-Half Persons by DNC

Remember the old canard of how slaves were only counted as 3/5 of a person back in colonial America?
It was, of course, a provision for apportionment of representatives in Congress. It was the anti- slavery forces that insisted on the 3/5 number to keep the number of representatives from slave holding states lower.
Now, we may have its modern equivalent: Democrats want to count Florida voters as ½ when it comes to seating delegates!

Two sources, including a high-ranking official with the Florida delegation, have confirmed that the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC) reached an agreement last night and will seat the state’s entire delegation but give each delegate half a vote.

Remind me again: Which party calls itself “Democratic“? Heh.

The unfortunate part is that you can reframe almost anything as a character issue.

I didn’t “reframe” anything; keeping your word is always a character issue.

Gee sorry poof, your original point was:

    Count every other vote!

    Heh.

And your gop voted to halve the votes of 5 states, the Dems are debating 2.

    Mike Adamson,

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it decided at the time of of the primaries in Florida and Michigan that because they had moved their primaries ahead in contravention of the rules that the votes wouldn’t count thus resulting in a low voting rate in both states and nary a peep was heard from any of the Democratic candidates?

    Exactly.

It is clear, this [MI] election isn’t going to count for anything.

Wow! I have come to the realization that Slavery is alive and well in the USA. The tax payers are the REAL Slaves. It never occurred to me that the Florida DMC would confirm that for me.

Please explain to me how the Republican vote in either or both those states changes the outcome of who the nominee is?

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

Do I need to explain to Nunez and his ilk that the Democrat nominee has not been decided yet? And that it’s a very close race between two candidates? How about the importance of counting every vote in a close race?

Or maybe I should just recommend a remedial reading course? Heh.

MikeA: You’re absolutely right about the earlier decision; it remains to be seen if the Dems will pay any attention to it. It’s a character issue, I think.

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

A huge part of his point was also to mock the idea that Democrats always scream “Every vote counts!”

And some still are! There are a bunch of Hillary supporters outside those meetings where half of Floridian Democrats are being disenfranchised!

  • http://proof-proofpositive.blogspot.com/ proof_positive

    your original point was:

In the context of a close race for the Democrats.
Hello! McFly! Have you been paying any attention at all???

Here’s a clue: Go back and count how many times the word “Democrat” or a variation of it takes place in the post.
Then go out and read a newspaper and acquaint yourself with what’s going on in the world.
Then maybe you’ll recognize the significance of the Democrats not counting every vote in Florida versus the Republicans with (redundancy alert!) their nominee already determined!

Hell! Make it five states! I’m feeling generous!

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/author/realitybasedbob/ realitybasedbob

Yes, yes they did, it was 5 states actually .

But because the goppers’ in their infinite wisdom, rallied around Flipper John. With all the other losers dropping out early there isn’t a division of delegates dilemma as seen on the dem side.

(AP) The Republican Party announced Thursday that it will punish five states for scheduling early nominating contests.

New Hampshire, Florida, South Carolina, Michigan and Wyoming will lose half of their delegates to the national convention, said Mike Duncan, chairman of the Republican National Committee.

…The RNC voted 121-9 Thursday to impose the penalties. Duncan, who has final say over the matter, said he will abide by the vote.

I answered that pointless point about 28 hrs ago:

  • Nunez

    robert108,

It’s unfortunate that people, including me, on this blog who have different opinion as the other politically, assume general remarks as attacks.

It was in reference that people attribute behaviors that happened in a moment in time to a person’s character over a lifetime. Both parties contribute to this.

  • http://insanereindeer.blogspot.com/ Kenny

    Yep, your right.
It’s the gop that doesn’t want to count every vote.
    Good job, Kenny.

You’re an idiot. Both parties are ignoring voters. The way both parties are now, and have always, framed voting leads to the different worldviews. The Republicans believe that you must follow rules. If you dont…your vote doesn’t count. Democrats believe that “voter disenfranchisement” must be avoided at all costs.

So you have two different parties where the same thing is happening. It’s a huge deal in one party, and not in the other. The Republican primary voters knew they wouldnt count and dealt with it. To the Democrat primary voters, it’s a crime against humanity that they don’t count.

The Dems have painted themselves into a corner. They set rules…but if they “disenfranchise” Michigan and Florida…they WILL lose the election. But if they fully count Florida and Michigan, golden boy Obama will lose the primary. They’re dicked either way.
