Florida Town Fires City Manager Because His Wife Was A Porn Star
Ted Kennedy drove a secretary he was having an affair with into a river and drowned her and got to keep his job. Bill Clinton got a BJ in the Oval Office and got to keep his job. But a city manager who is lawfully married to a woman who was once employed in a perfectly legal, if morally objectionable to some, industry?
Well, he reflects poorly on the government.
MIAMI (AP) — A South Florida town manager who married a porn star last year was fired at an emergency meeting after the mayor and council members learned about it.
Fort Myers Beach town council voted 5-0 to fire Scott Janke “without cause” after Mayor Larry Kiker called the Tuesday night meeting.
Kiker said he learned that afternoon that Janke’s wife is an adult film star, and the elected officials took the action a few hours later.
This is my favorite part:
“At no time did we make a judgment call on the activities of Mr. Janke or his wife,” Kiker told The Associated Press. “It’s a matter of how effective he becomes after this situation. How much disruption there is.”
They aren’t judging the couple. They’re just firing him because of her job. Got it?
Personally, I think that sort of bald-faced lying should be more of a disqualification for working in government than working in porn.
And apparently not everyone in the city leadership got the memo about being non-judgmental:
Councilman Tom Babcock, responding to residents’ questions, said at a council meeting Wednesday that Janke was fired because his wife’s profession brought an inaccurate image to Fort Myers Beach, according to the News-Press of Fort Myers.
“When you become a public figure you are held to a different level of scrutiny and ethics,” Babcock said.
Right. Because our public leaders are known for their ethics and morality.
I really don’t see what the big deal is. They’re not breaking laws. They’re not stealing any money. They’re not hurting anyone. How about a little live and let live?
