Firefox Flash Blocker

My main computer is my notebook that’s three and an half years old.  Lately it’s been getting painfully slow.

I haven’t had the problems like this on my home desktops, but getting on with the kids and wife has been a problem.

One of the problems was that I was very short on memory.  Last week I installed two gigs of memory into it.

That seemed to work for a while but today I was having problems, not with memory utilization but with Firefox pegging out the CPU.  I did a Google search on the problem and one of the solutions was to install Mozilla Flash Block. I tried that and so far the computer’s been running like a dream.

The way it works it holds up all of the flash players that automatically turn up in all kinds of web pages.  If you want to see them you can click on them and they’ll start.  One of the negatives is that embedded Youtube videos are also affected.  Of course it’s simple to click on them to start the Flash so I don’t see that as being a big problem.

I like to keep a ton of windows open which certainly contributes a lot to my problem.  Still if I want more tabs and windows open then that’s what I’m going to do.

I thought I’d post this for anyone else who’s having the same problem.

You might also consider installing the Firefox extensions adblock or adblock plus. You can block image advertiements as well as scripts which use up computer resources.

THANK you.  I visit a lot of trade sites (I work in video) that are overwhelmed with Flash ads, and even my quad-core Mac is slowing down on some of them!

Blogging advertising sounds like fascism to me.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

I was going to mention something about that statement but I thought I’d leave it for someone else.
