Fighting Sioux Hockey 25 Years Ago

Old Time Hockey, Eddie Shore.

I’ve been waiting for years and years to get a video of this.  Last night they showed this clip during the Sioux Badger game.  A gentleman by the name of Redfrog posted it to youtube saving me the trouble.

One thing to keep in mind is that these two teams weren’t a bunch of hacks.  We won the national championship that year 1982 beating these same BADgers in the championship game.  We had also won it all in 1980.  The Badgers won it in 1981 and 1983.  So we traded the title for four years.

This game also is known to have the most talent ever in a college hockey game, with players like Chris Chelios, James Patrick, Phil Sykes, Craig Ludwig etc etc etc.

Anyway the important thing is that we won last night saving a split against the BADgers.  Here’s some video of the intense periods from last night.  (Note the Badgers fondness for jumping people from behind.)

And if you can’t say it to someone’s face you shouldn’t say it.  If you wonder where this behind the back stuff comes from watch Wisconsin’s coach lipping off behind Dave Hakstol’s back right after shaking his hand.

Now - because the slanted Wisconsin play-by-play guys didn’t tell you, I will share that Cary Eades (now a ND Assistant) went into the UW bench because their players squirted him in the face with a water bottle.

i.e.  They had it coming and we brought it to them!!!!

Thanks for the old school clip, TW I’m been looking for it too.  Now if we could find a recording of Hennesy doing the radio call it would be even better.

They actually talked about that during the intermission.  They even had the Squirter John Newberry there.  It looked to me that he took a few too many punches to the head.

Not that being squirted with water is a great excuse for starter a brawl…

The Debate is over!  Global Whining has been confirmed.
