FEMA Trailers Popping Up Like Dandelions

Got these pics from Say Anything reader/commentator 2Hotel9:

This is in Purvis, MS, just off I-59. Guardsman at the gates told me there were 3000 of these parked there, that was last Saturday. They have been moving them to setup sites all week.

    &heellip; I’ll say they’re stumbling. Say Anything reader 2Hotel9 provided us with pictures of hundreds of unused trailers stockpiled by FEMA. But this, from later in the article, is interesting: And under an alternative FEMA program to give victims cash to find their own housing, 332,000 households have been approved in just a week. &heellip;

Go to the FEMA office setup in Picayune, or drive up to Purvis. Take the second left after getting off 59, drive back about a half mile. There should still be an operations center there. If you have expeirence in trailer setup they will definately want to see you, though the hire will be with a contractor. I grew up in Pearl River county, up by Gumpond Church. You guys really got hammered. Well good luck and let us hear how it goes.

  • Daniel’s Transport

We are a hotshot company with a 40foot and a 25foot trailer. We are intrested in pulling camper or hauling for fema

  • lana Ryland

Would like to hall trailers for FEMA in or around Baton Rouge, La. Who do I contact?
    lana

  • 2Hotel9

Contact FEMA. If you see a truck pulling for them, get the number from their placard. They usually have several taped to the truck and trailer. If you have a truck set up for fifth-wheel and ball-hitch they will definately want to talk to you. Do you have expeirence setting up mobilehomes and RV trailers? That would be a +. Good luck. And remember, be careful what you wish for.

  • jd

want to haul fema trailers out of louisville ky any help would be appreciated closes thing i can find is goshen ind. that is 5 and a half hour drive from me

  • Patrick Tarpley

Who do I need to contact about transporting a few campers down to Purvis? I live in North MS and feel like its only right for me to help out a little bit since I have the equipment. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • 2Hotel9

Call FEMA’s contact number, it should be listed under government agencies in the phonebook. If not, call information for Hattiesburg or Picayune. They had an operations center in Picayune. Also try Gulfport. Good luck, and be careful what you wish for.

  • Michelle

Have any of you actually hauled any trailers?
My husband hooked up with a company in Baton Rouge, hauled 2 trailers and then the company did not get any more dispatches. We have looked for weeks for any legitimate contractors who will send us out. We have the correct equipment and commercial insurance and experience. Obviously do not know the RIGHT people, pathetic that people from Louisiana cant even get work during this.

I drove from Chicago to just south of Nashville on I-65 this past weekend…I have a whole new respect for FEMA. I have to tell everyone we saw over 100 travel trailers and probably 30 mobile homes on flat beds all heading south. The people who are complaining about FEMA not doing anything are probably the ones who are sitting at home watching TV instead of paying attention to whats rolling down the roads. Yeah a travel trailer or a mobile home is not luxurious housing, but it sure beats sleeping in a shelter or outside…not to mention having plumbing again. I think this is giving the victims some power back because for so long they have been at the mercy of others…they had no control over when they ate, got a shower, or when they slept. So even if Thanksgiving dinner is going to be eaten at a table in a mobile home or trailer, at least they have a place to cook and eat with their families.

I just want to tell everyone that FEMA Has been working extremely hard since 08/29/05. I know, because I am one of the people that FEMA has hired to help! The first month we worked for 12 hours plus straight on the telephones gathering information. We did not have a day off for over a month. Now we work seven days and get one day off.

Our families are adjusting. They have not had a home cooked meal since we have started working. Our children see us for an hour, maybe an hour and a half a day and they understand when we tell them that we are tired and bring them a burger for dinner. Laundry at our homes are piling up sky high.. but we thank God we have laundry. We get maybe if we are lucky five hours a day sleep and our bodies have become adjusted.

My only goal since this devastation was to be a part of the recovery in any way possible. We are now in the process of trying to contact everyone that was displaced and trying to find them is very hard at times. Sometimes I make over ten phone calls for one person, because when people move they do not call to let us know to where they have moved. Sometimes we get family members or friends that think this is a big joke and tell us they do not know the person and when I call back and someone else answers (like a child) they tell me that they used to stay there. Then there are the registered people that called in thinking that they were going to get free Government money (and many did) when nothing at all was wrong with their homes and their family incomes were in access of over $100,000+ a year and their homes were insured. They clogged up our phone lines so that those that did need help could not get through! Now that we are trying to find those in need it is difficult because we have to weed through those that did not need our help in the first place.

Just locating the people and trying to find a safe place to put the trailers so that people will not be in danger once they are in them is a job in itself.

You could not even imagine in your wildest dreams, the magnitude of the numbers of workers that the Government has working around the clock to help put all of this together!

Not only are we working but so are our families. Mine will not have a Thanksgiving or a Christmas this year, because there is not enough time! We have no time to shop let alone put anything together.

The victims of Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita and Wilma are more important to us this year. We think about those that have nothing, nothing at all and thank our Lord that we are in a position to help. That is what keeps us going.

FEMA is not God, FEMA is a Branch of the American Government. You have to understand that whole cities have been destroyed. They cannot just magically create a city over night. It takes time, research and manpower. It takes us as a nation to come together and help in any way necessary.

President Kennedy once said “Ask not what your country can do for you, but, what YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY!” At this time all of us need to be asking ourselves that same question.

While we are preparing for our holidays, we need to take a moment and just imagine ourselves in someone else’s shoes. What if? What if something terrible happened to the nice comfortable city or town that you are in now? What if a terrorist targeted your town? What if a hurricane, Tsunami, or tornado came through your city or town? What if everything that you worked hard for and cherished was suddenly gone? What if those family photographs that you cling to were just washed away?

While you are having your holiday dinners with friends and family over, think about those that cannot have a dinner that was made with love and care, think about those that do not have a place to have dinner let alone a chair or a table to sit at, think about those that have lost their family and they will have no one to sit with. Think about those of us that our sacrificing hard to put everything together, neglecting friends and family and are hard at work not able to have a Christmas tree or a turkey with trimmings, because there is just not enough time, because others need us more. When you think of all of that, then think… WHAT CAN “I” DO FOR “MY” COUNTRY!?!

You would be amazed that with all of the ridicule that we get and with all of the long grueling hours that we work, we are still able to greet each other with a smile each day and give a word of encouragement to those that think they cannot make it another minute. We find time to give prayers to those that pass out from exhaustion and more prayer to those that have family members that are sick and dying and the workers cannot be there for them.

Through this ordeal our Government has become stronger, a more close knit family so to speak. A magnitude of individuals from literally every walk of life, willingly, gladly and proudly giving anything and everything of themselves. Neglecting everything that they hold dear to them until the job is done.

At this moment, in our countries most trying time, I can personally say that I have never in my life been more proud to be an American. It is my sincere honor and privilege to serve my country and I will continue to serve wherever and however, until the job is done!

    Sincerely,

    A Single Mother!

A warning to all you suckers on the road. Mainly you bareback riders hauling FEMA travel trailers. Remember the black hearts are not only in the Government; State Troopers, DOT, politicians, or the company owners and their lackeys. I was sleeping in the Flying J, Midway, Florida, when a guy banged on my truck all excited. “Come on, come on”, was all I heard. He took off across the lot toward a couple of guys at the tail of a flat bed. I thought someone must have been injured working on his load. Sleep left me pretty quick. No one else is coming. I’m not in the closest truck. What’s going on? So I walked over to find out what’s going on. Quickly I discover it’s a three card monty “SCAM”, and left to call the cops. Never saw one drive through the lot. Maybe I turned my head or blinked. Any way they left soon after I returned to my truck. I’m in my F350, so I figure they thought I’m hauling TTs.
Don’t mess with these thieve, they’re serious criminals, willing to enforce the rules of the game. Rule one and only. There are no winners. At any rate, it was a pleasure to see a job being preformed so well. They were real professionals at work. I sometimes can’t believe this tired old scam still works. These guys could have been reading from the below links, they followed the outline so well.
The big guy who knocked on my window is on my left. He says to me, “This guy just won $30,000 at a casino while he was in Louisiana doing relief work.” He’s talking to me the whole time the little guy with the money is jumping up and down and waving what looks like a 1″ stack of $100′s in front of me. I never saw more then the top few. It was pretty noisy so I didn’t catch all his lines. It boiled down to the guy on my right and another big guy on my left wanted me to take advantage of the little guy. The little guy drops a card and turns around to retrieve it and my friend on the right bends over and crimps the queen, and says, “don’t tell him” A few more guys walk up and I walk away. It’s a good show, I’ll recommend it for it’s professional quality.

We have several companies hiring drivers to haul FEMA trailers in the Baton Rouge area. Most are short hauls, some long (Indiana, etc.) If you want to sign up with these companies you will need the following: at least 3/4 ton truck, 1 million commercial liability insurance & 30,000 cargo; various safety equipment like orange vest, reflective triangles, firstaid kit, wet cell battery, etc. This is not a complete list but will give you an idea of what is needed. If you want more info email me or call 225-664-8008. We have 2 queensize beds for rent and a 2 bed camper on our property. Rent includes food and laundry.

I have just finished reading all the request and comments. It seems to me that everyone is in the same boat as I am and asking the same question: Where do we sign up and how do we qualify to haul trailers for FEMA? I was an over the road driver for 9 years and out of work. I do noT HAVE A cdl , do I need one? What does it pay and what kind of equipment is needed. Surely you need people to deliver these trailers. What’s more important who is going to pick all of them up when the next hurricane comes this way!

    Thanks

Jack in New Orleans send me a phone number by e-mail please as to who to contact in New Orleans.
