FDA Considering Letting Letting Americans Buy More Drugs Over The Counter

The FDA is considering turning more prescription drugs into over the counter drugs, meaning patients could purchase them without a doctor’s note.

Doctors, as you might imagine, don’t like the idea because it would mean fewer paid visits to their offices. Pharmacists, on the other hand, love the idea because it will let them sell drugs, but also because they argue that a lot of these drugs don’t need a doctor’s close supervision.

I think it sounds like a wonderful idea. Anything that allows Americans more choice when it comes to their health care, anything that cuts through the red tape that restricts their choices, is a good thing.

The solution for health care in America isn’t the government doing more, which is the premise Obamacare was based on, but the government doing less to distort and stagnate health care markets.
