Farmers Union Still Pushing For Ag Aid In November

Sigh…

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Voters should ask congressional candidates to pledge support for billions of dollars in agricultural disaster aid when lawmakers return to work in November, the second-largest U.S. farm group said on Monday.

“Now is when your voice is loudest,” said Tom Buis, president of the 300,000-member National Farmers Union. He said “citizens should demand they get that commitment ... now, before the election.”

Ag Secretary Mike Johanns gets the response to this right:

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns says any consideration of aid should wait until the fall harvest is over and a clear view is available of U.S. farm output.

Exactly.

Why should American tax payers foot the bill for agriculture “disaster” aid when we don’t even know what the full scope of the “disaster” (if that’s even the appropriate word for it) yet?

Comments

I’m for some type of federal program on disaster aid, but paying people for a disaster they can’t prove is stupid politics.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.
