Fargo Mom Wants To Shame Trick Or Treating Fat Kids With A Letter Telling Parents To “Step Up”

Update: Looks like it was a hoax by the radio station.

According to Fargo-area radio station Y94, a Fargo-area mother wants to distribute these letters to trick or treaters she thinks are too fat (see below).

Unfortunately, the letter doesn’t have an address to aid in helping to avoid this killjoy’s home.

Not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with her message. Most of us could probably make healthier choices when it comes to our diets. But it’s a little presumptuous for someone to appoint themselves the arbiter of who does and does not get Halloween candy.

Plus, if you really want to spread a message about healthier living, does it help to wound people with that message?

How would you like to be the kid who got singled out by some stranger as being too fat to get Halloween candy?

Hmm, does that letter constitute bullying? Would the kid who receives this in his or her bag feel victimized? If I were a Fargo parent, I’d be tempted to tag along with my child just in the hope that I stumble across this “villager’s” home so that I could stop and have a meaningful chat with her about the merits of minding one’s own business.

    • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

Maybe you could write her a letter about all the ways you think she could be living her life better.

You know, as a public service.

Was she calling the station for support? Why no name and address? Passive aggressive whiner.

    • scanham2

“Why no name and address?” Exactly. If she’s bold enough to hand out this nasty note, she should be bold enough to sign it. But it appears she doesn’t really have the courage of her “convictions.”

If that happened to my kid, fat or not, I would have him take me to every house he went to until we found the pretentious SOB who gave the letter out and then I would her an a$$ chewing that would make a Marine Corps drill instructor blanch. Oh, and she better not be one ounce overweight herself.

    • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

That’s kind of the thing right? If you’re going to humiliate others for their short comings, you’d better be perfect yourself.

We can’t say anything about gay people, but with fat people anything goes.

I think she should keep her lights off this year. She doesn’t have the spirit of the holiday.

  • JoeMN

    Two things.
    First;

Part of the Halloween tradition is that the kids must step out and travel by foot to take actual physical possession of the offending candy.
Secondly, Childhood obesity is more than one night of sugar binging.

If the MO school lunch diet misses the mark, this Fargo mom doesn’t have a prayer.

  • http://Sayanythingblog.com The Whistler

If she doesn’t look like this she’s got no business telling other people how to live.

Eye candy as opposed to sugary treats? If she opened the door in that, every adult male in the neighborhood would be lining up .

    Hack Logic:

Person calling another fat: Outrageous! Who is she to discriminate and rile people up!?
Group of people advocating death of inferior races: Perfectly fine and acceptable.

    • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

I never said the politics of the Leith Nazis are acceptable. In fact, I’m sure I’ve written repeatedly that they’re abhorrent. But also protected for a lot of good reasons.

You’ll note that while I’m critical of this woman, I don’t want to use city ordinances to drive her out of her home.

      • Guest

You’ll note that you have used your soapbox to defend the Nazis and condemn this women, hack. Why not a great big post about how important it is to defend this woman’s right to discriminate, hack? One need look forward than the hack’s disparate treatment of these issues to see his readily apparent hypocrisy and bigotry.

        • Lianne

Obviously, you tried to put words together just to being able to use the word ‘hack’ repeatedly. So name calling is your main point of discussion, not anything of any substance.

        • JoeMN

Since when does the Nazi lynch mob need another soapbox to topple free speech ?

        • Guest

You seem to be unable to make a distinction between a private citizen stating that something is a bad idea (handing out a letter about obesity for Halloween) and government officials using the government to stifle free speech (the Lieth situation). THIS IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

    • 2hotel9

Then perhaps you Democrats should stop “advocating” that. Hmmmm?

  • MrSkeptic

But it’s a little presumptuous for someone to appoint themselves the arbiter of who does and does not get Halloween candy.

If she bought the candy she gives out and doesn’t want to give it to the fat kids, what is wrong with that? I thought you guys believed in individual choice?

She is also giving a little advice to parents of fat kids. There is nothing wrong with that.

    • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

I think she’s free to do whatever she wants on Halloween. I just happen to think its tacky, and probably not at all conducive to her apparent goal of promoting healthy living.

      • MrSkeptic

What would work to promote healthy living on Halloween?

        • 2hotel9

dunking you in a bucket filled with your own feces?

        • MrSkeptic

Perhaps fewer treats and more tricks.

          • 2hotel9

No, dunking you and all your fellow leftards in buckets of feces will work a lot better.

        • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

          Maybe not humiliating little kids?

          • MrSkeptic

Humiliating little kids is unhealthy, but so is handing out candy to kids who clearly do not need it. So again, what would promote healthy living with respect to diet and nutrition?

    • 2hotel9

She didn’t buy halloween candy, mrstupid, THAT is her point.

      • MrSkeptic

I think you have to reread the note. She is handing out notes to obese kids. What is she giving normal sized kids? Halloween candy? It isn’t clear, but Rob believes she is making a discrimination about who does and doesn’t get candy. I was addressing that assumption.

        • 2hotel9

She is an obvious malcontent, just like you. She is handing out her little manifesto, not candy. Perhaps she should have simply shut up, and not turned on her porch light during trick or treat time.

Oh, like you she CAN’T shut her mouth. Got to spew stupid sh*t, which is most likely why you both voted for Obama.

          • MrSkeptic

I think I agree with Rob. She can do whatever she wants on Halloween, stupid or not. As they say, it is a FREE country. :)

          • 2hotel9

And her house will get tp-ed and egged, being a free country and all.

          • MrSkeptic

And that is where the law should step in. It is against the law to tp and egg someone’s house. I suspect you believe in following the law right?

          • 2hotel9

Ah, so you want special rights and privileges. Another typical leftard, you sh*t on people then get mad because they sh*t on you in return.

          • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

She can, and the rest of us are free to criticize.

        • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

Well, no, I didn’t say anything about “making a discrimination” I pointed out that it’s sort of cruel to humiliate kids like this.

          • MrSkeptic

arbiter of who does and does not get Halloween candy.

Arbiters discriminate don’t they? In this case, the arbiter is choosing who should or shouldn’t get candy based upon the weight of the children who visit her house. She is also recommending other parents follow her lead. If that isn’t discriminating, I don’t know what is.

          • JoeMN

If she held a business license in New Mexico, she wouldn’t be allowed to discriminate, would she ?

          • MrSkeptic

If she was selling candy and obese kids were a protected class, then she wouldn’t be allowed to discriminate.

          • JoeMN

So are you beginning to see the problem with anti-discrimination laws ?

          • MrSkeptic

No. One values a particular class of people and believe the rights of those people are more important than the rights of business owners. What is problematic about that?

          • JoeMN

So certain groups of people should enjoy rights while others should not.
            Nice.

Well, so much or the concept of EQUAL rights

          • 2hotel9

MrStupid loves anti-discrimination laws, the more convoluted and incomprehensible the better. Leftards always use these “laws” to attack people who are not discriminating but who refuse to submit to their sick a$$ed anti-human ideology.

    • HG

She’s setting herself as the neighbor everyone wishes would move. Seem every neighborhood has one or more.

      Typical liberal busybody.
I’m sure she’ll be getting a message as to what she can do with her letter.

      • Drain52

She probably had her outhouse tipped over, with her in it.

  • yy4u2

Damn ‘it takes a village’ Democrat bigot. Ha. Just watched some Charlie Brown cartoon last night, The Great Pumpkin perhaps. Anyway, I haven’t seen that since I was a tot. Since I have a tot of my own and my wife bought a bunch of old child videos, I sat and watched. I think there is a lot to learn from it; people can and will be mean, we don’t always get the good things but sometimes rocks, we can try to believe in fairy tale great pumpkins but some things just aren’t going to happen, and, probably my favorite is that there are blockheads in your life or someone calling you a blockhead. At the end of the day, or night as like the story, help your family out no matter how goofy they might be. It doesn’t hurt to help others out a bit like Lucy waking up at 4 am to go out to the pumpkin patch to find Linus chivering so she brought him in, put him to bed, and life went on.

    • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

Yeah, the “it takes a village” crap is obnoxious. This lady thinks she has a right to help raise your kids.

  • 2hotel9

And her “house” will be coated with tp and rotten eggs. What a stupid f*ck.

    • devilschild

Try to remember that this is happening in ND….the state where if people don’t like you they crap in your driveway.

      • 2hotel9

Sorry, people get what they earn. And I think this little nazi cow is going to get truck loads of sh*t dumped on her.

  • Rod

    I think Y94 just punk’d you Rob.
Didn’t they do the “Move the deer sign” YouTube bit?

    • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

I guess I’m not familiar with that.

If this is fake it’s not so much a prank as just making crap up, which would be unfortunate.

      • Rod

If she called in how did they get the letter?
Doesn’t she know the utter grief she will suffer after probably the
        first letter.
Either they are playing with their audience or a listener wants attention.

        • 2hotel9

And she will get it. Be careful what one wishes for.

        • http://sayanythingblog.com Rob

I wouldnt underestimate the stupidity of some people.

You wouldn’t believe the crap I’d get when I had a shown in Fargo.

      • joe mauer

So what your saying is this is an unfortunate blog?

  • HG

You could always wrap a dog turd in the letter and give back as a flaming letter of poop.

Interesting that this bunch is jumping all over this woman ! Interesting that Rob made this story so important. Is it that important? Not really when I can think of 100’s more relevant! . My guess is that the story caught his attention because of his hyper sensitivity about weight issues. He has gotten very peevish in the past when his round profile got ridiculed in the past. Rob lives in the world where he decides only others can get attacked for such stuff- not him. ( attacks on democrats and their ‘looks’ have always been tolerated on ‘his’ blog -nevermind that such stuff is ALWAYS wrong).
getting back to this ‘heaven for bid, do- gooder women’ , did she go out door to door soliciting this message? or did the public voluntarily come to her? Did she go to Rob’s door and hand him that note? or did she hand out that note when Rob came begging for candy at her door???
Wasn’t her stunt a ‘free speech’ ploy , one that Rob would get all goofy over had the woman done it in a manner he liked? Maybe all you brats should grow up ! if my kid got that note I would tell my kid to THINK about what it means and decide for them selves. My kid woulda thought about it and gotten a teachable lesson. This bunch apparently wants their kids to carry on the tradition of ‘Dad acted like a jerk’ and go out and act just like me!
The hateful reaction that this women has garnered here just solidifies the impression that this is where jerks come to find a haven!

    • Lianne

IF the story is true, if she went on the radio station, if she sent them a copy of the letter; she was seeking publicity. Rob brings more publicity than any other single media in the state. She got what she asked for.

      • joe mauer

robnob is a piss ant on a elephants leg when compared to other media outlets in this state. You need to expand your horizons.

        • Lianne

Another liberal angry with their leader so you bash Rob.

        • 2hotel9

Really? Name them all for us, and provide the numbers on how many subscribers/listeners/readers they have. joey manure.

    • 2hotel9

This woman wanted attention, and she is getting it. And YOU have a problem with that.

  • meh

I will give double candy to any child that brings me this note!

    • 2hotel9

      Yes! In her face. Hahaha

  • del

I don’t know about this, but I do think that DHS employees should hand letters like this out with the generous electronic food stamp benefits that they give out.

  • awfulorv

Wonder if this woman would approach a table where sat four heavyweight women, and chastise them for their excess poundage? I think not. She comes off as a presumptious bully, picking on children. Better she should go take in a movie rather than dispense hurt on Halloween.

  • Charlotte Dixon

    a re-worked version of the letter http://redd.it/1pjx3h

  • noblindersonme

I want to write a retraction, an apology , a mea culpa whatever. Yesterday I wrote some stuff not knowing ( I shoulda read the letter first) the ‘lady’ was cherry picking children out for her one-woman crusade on obesity. She shold NOT have done that!!! Had she intended the letter to be read by all children , and for them to make good choices individually , then she woulda got my support. As the letter purported ,she singled out those overweight for almost ridicule. She was wrong, I was wrong!!!

  • noblindersonme

Whoops – having made a sincere apology , I find that the incident was most likely a scam , a talk radio DJ prank! A Fargo station whose history of these kind of stunts INVENTING the whole thing!
    We all fell for it!
Years ago we are finding out these pranksters posted a writer who thought deer signs should be banned from roadsides! You know the deer xcrossing signs! She ‘thought’ the signs were ‘luring deer ‘ to the roads! The gullible public went nuts chuckling over the stupid woman. ( or maybe some of the ‘thinkers’ here thought she had something there!
Having been the victim of this prank we all should maybe examine what this taught us.
I still think the ‘fake ‘ woman had a ‘free speech ‘ right to be overbearing when she put that fake letter to ‘fat’ kids’. Free speech does extend to meaness like that. and yes most here were were right to bash her for her meaness.
Also I think Rob , had he not been so hyper sensitive to such stuff , should have just ignored it . Then he would not have been a victim of the prank too!
Maybe pranksters like this do teach us something , like jumping to conclusions maybe!!!
Jumping to conclusions -the only exercise some of you ever get!!
