Far Left Pro-Abortion Group Gives Heidi Heitkamp A Shout Out

I’ve written about the poll Democrats released showing Heitkamp winning the US Senate race at this early moment in the race, saying it was a stab at convincing national liberal interests that North Dakota’s is a race worth investing in.

Clearly, the poll is having the desired impact at far-left, pro-abortion group EMILY’s List:

Hold onto your mittens, North Dakota is in play! According to the Cook Political Report, Heidi Heitkamp’s announcement that she’s running has pushed this into a “toss-up” column.

“As part of the case for Heitkamp’s candidacy, Democrats released a poll that had been taken in August which showed presumptive GOP nominee At-Large U.S. Rep. Rick Berg with a slim advantage over a generic Democratic candidate,” Jennifer Duffy writes.

Note that, despite this clear enthusiasm, Heitkamp is not a candidate listed on the group’s website as one they’re supporting. That’s almost certainly by design. Heitkamp can deny being supported by the pro-abortion group, but they are clearly backing her and hoping to channel money her way.

Back in the 2000 governor race, the last time Democrat Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp was on the statewide ballot, a big issue was Heitkamp’s acceptance of campaign money from the far-left abortion mongers at EMILY’s List. North Dakota is a pro-life state, we have just one abortion clinic in the state, so support for a North Dakota candidate from a pro-abortion group is, needless to say, not very convenient.

So it’s interesting to see EMILY’s List giving a shout out to Heitkamp on their blog, as oblique as their support may be.

On top of Heitkamp’s support for Obamacare and President Obama and a host of other liberal policies that the average North Dakota voter is likely to find objectionable, support from EMILY’s List for Heitkamp is another inconvenient reality for her campaign.
