Facing Re-Election, Red State Liberal Senator Byron Dorgan Puts His “Free Market” Hat On

After the utter failure of the last “stimulus” plan, rumor on capitol hill is that the Democrats are threatening to pass a second stimulus spending spree. But Democrats who are facing re-election, such as Senator Byron Dorgan who is staring down the barrel of what could be a tough re-election challenge from popular Governor John Hoeven (if he ever makes up his mind on running, that is), aren’t so sure it’s what they want.
And, unbelievably, Senator Dorgan who not only voted for the “stimulus” spending spree but was quoted as saying that it would “put people people to work in this economy” (reality: the unemployment rate is up over 3 points since then), is saying that we don’t need a government stimulus.
We need to incentivize businesses hiring more people.

…Sen. Byron Dorgan, who faces reelection in the red state of North Dakota, said Friday that a second economic stimulus package isn’t the way to go, criticizing the first package for placing a “small” emphasis on transportation and infrastructure projects that could have created more jobs.
“I think health care is important, climate change is important, I think by far the most important issue for this country is lifting the economy and putting people to work,” Dorgan said. “This is not about a stimulus, it’s about the right kind of policies to incentivize small and medium sized businesses to create jobs.”

Gee, Byron, what do you think would incentivize businesses to create jobs?
Maybe if you cut taxes and regulations and quit saddling them with more burdens like expanded unemployment entitlements and they’d have the money to hire more people.
It’s funny to watch liberals try to come back tot he right when they’ve got to win re-election.

The stimulus was needed. Another stimulus is not. You may disagree with the 1st comment. But I bet you agree with the 2nd. So he’s right, and you are criticizing him for it? I guess that makes you a patriot in someone like Hannity’s eyes.

The Bush Bail out was wrong, the Obama ” stimulus was wrong and continued government interference is wrong.
The Bush bail out was to save banks – turns out they were wrong (how many banks have closed?)
The first and second give away to the automakers was necessary to save them – they were wrong. Ford did not take money and they are doing better than Government Motors.

The Stimulus money would keep unemployment under 8% -wrong again.

For the life of me I can’t think of anything they have been right about.

1st post racial presidency – wrong (it is worse) remember ole Skippy at Harvard
End pork barrel spending – huge lie there
5 day review and posting of all legislation – another lie
Open and transparent Administration – OMG where do you start with that. Hell he won’t even produce his birth certificate or school records. As soon as someone is discovered to be a problem they are thrown under the bus.

Gov Blago – Do you really expect anynone to believe that he did not discuss who he wanted installed as his replacement. You are dangerously naive about Chicago politics.

There are some estimates (slight exageration) that the national debt could have been paid off if his cabinet appointees would have just paid taxes.

Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, Acorn – The list is a mile long. (Chicago cronyism)

Apologizing for America, Bowing to the Saudi King, honoring the Queen of England with recording of his speeches. The man is an ebarassment and disgrace

He was a senator for 146 days before running for president, he has demonstrated that he has all the class of a Chicago community organizer.

He has been in office for less than a year and his list of dubious accomplishments are very instructive and enlightning.

Without his teleprompter he makes George W. Bush like Stephan Hawkings.

There are non so blind as those who will not see.

This guy makes Nixon look like a schoolyard bully going after lunch money.
You Drink the Kool-aid and watch freedom disappear. . As for me Give me Liberty or Give me Death.

They will say anything to get your vote – review how he has voted and hold him accountable. He is a known quantity and everyone should be aware of just who he is. Time to send him packing.

he is a democrat. that means he needs to go. one thing about republicans is that are really good at economics. the reason for this, is a lot of republicans are entrepaneurs (sp?) don’t believe me, look it up.

bottom line, get rid of the democrats and rinos. be at the polls in 2010! democrats vote together, no matter how bad the policy is, they will vote party line. even if it means USA goes over the economic cliff.

Dorgan will be just like Olsen in NY#23—who, just a few hours after being elected did what democrats do best—-Lied—–and all of a sudden supported Pelosi/Obama Public option

Obama ran as a moderate…….and look what we got

Dorgan is a Democrat—he has to Lie and coverup in order to survive politically…..

—always remember when considering a bill or an action—the 1st thing contemplated by democrats is plausible deniability……then the other stuff comes

  • sayanything-6955

Get out the plaid shirts and wheat fields. Dorgan does what he does, say it at home for the votes, then off to DC for another term of doing what he does. Oh what does he do? What all liberals do, they “LIE”!

  • sayanything-6955

Bad Rug, you are a member of the party with the right mascot. You are an ass!

  • sayanything-7406

Byron Dorgan is such a hypocrite. But regardless of his motives if he opposes something I also happen to oppose then I am glad.
