F-14 Getting “Shredded”

Earlier this week I posted about the Pentagon spending $900,000 to “shred” the recently retired F-14 Tomcat fighter jets. Now here’s some video of what a $900,000 jet shredding looks like.
Sort of cool.

That is not cool you d bag. the f-14 is a huge part of naval aviation history, and the destruction of this aircraft is in no way cool.

    Or Wilkinsburg in Pittsburgh!

That is so cool! AND not a bad way to make a living. I would have done the shredding for $800.000. IF they had just asked me. BUT nobody ever asks me???

Pretty cool. Question? I tried to find text on this, is it $900,000 per plane? Or is that the amount the recycle/salvage will bring? I know junkers that would strip that down for about $150 a day, do 2 or 3 a day. The machines doing the work are around $300 grand a piece, ditto for the shredder. Just curious.

Yes, it is sad. You are too fucking stupid to understand that airframes only have so many years of safe, effective operational life. Just as you are too fucking stupid to understand that climactic variance is driven by the Sun. Fucking moron.

    O K . I w i l l t y p e t h i s v e r y s l o w l y s o y o u c a n u n d e r s t a n d.

F 14s are CARRIER BASED aircraft. That means each one in Dept Navy custody has thousands of hours of launches and landings. From and onto AIRCRAFT CARRIERS. A most ungentle manner in which to operate an aircraft.

And”Don’t put up the old F-14s for sale and maintain them, in case we ever need them.”. You can’t support and maintain that kind of bifurcated operation. Pilots and crews have to transition into other aircraft. Supply and logistics has to prioritize for current operational systems.

I voted to have them transitioned to US Army CloseAirSupport Command, those that had 10 years of airframe time left on them. Thomas can carry a load and loiter. All Tomcats were air-refuel capable, giving the crew 12-14 hours in the sky, with a large load of ordnance. Then again, that vote was only among a bunch of people discussing the imminent demise of the F 14. Back when the decision was finally made.

Oh, and if you are responding for ews, trawl comment archives and get back to me.

    To 2Hotel9:

You are nothing but a worthless fucking prick that deserves nought but to be shot in the face with a nail gun.

Why so much expensive destruction of such a fine aircraft? Yes, Iran is looking for spare F-14 parts and it is a liability to be selling these planes, but such wanton shredding of such beautiful aircraft is unwarranted.

The answer: Don’t sell them to anyone. Don’t put up the old F-14s for sale and maintain them, in case we ever need them. Or send them back to the Navy or Air Force for use during air shows.

Could have just taken the plates off them
and parked them in Brooklyn or the Bronx.
