Excellence in Education

Is this anywhere near 2Hotel9?

DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A 12-year-old special education student was charged with disorderly conduct after authorities said she deliberately wet her pants at school.

The girl’s mother said she urinated only because the principal frightened her. The mother said in Thursday’s Press Enterprise that the incident occurred last month, after the girl, classmates and teachers ate a holiday lunch at Danville Middle School.

The girl was told to go to the kitchen to wash some pots and pans, but refused, wet her pants after teachers summoned Principal Kevin Duckworth, the mother said.

I mean for crying out loud.  She’s a special education student.  Even if she DID do it on purpose it’s still inappropriate to bring the police in on a matter the school should handle.  How are the police and courts supposed to handle this situation better than the schools.

Perhaps this student needs to learn in a different environment.  But the criminal justice system is the wrong place.

I also feel for the parents who perhaps are doing their best and now have the criminal justice system to fight as well.  It’s tough enough to raise kids without the schools heaping unnecessary woes upon the family.

Unfortunately, schools are continuing to bring the police in to handle these types of situations because if they are not handled “correctly” in the eyes of the parents, the school faces a lawsuit.

Well she wet her pants so there’s no call for involving the police.

I mean I could see it if she threw her pencil at another kid, that’s assault.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Unfortunately, the Schools, the government, etc. have invaded on our parental and personal lives. It is too bad when the police can charge a child with bad conduct. AND parents are not allowed to spank a kid and send him to bed without dinner. OR punish their child in the way a parent sees fit, without it being a CRIME. I am not saying beat your children. OR starve them and lock them in their room.  I am suggesting giving parents their power back just might improve our children and their attitudes toward authority figures and adults in general. I was spanked when I was a child. Not often because I knew better! This is just another example of WHY Government should stay the heck out of our personnal lives as much as possible…

Great connection between spanking at home and the schools calling in men with guns to handle in-school non-violent situations.

Whistle, I remember well when the school gave swats with a paddle to the boys if they were out of hand. The guys had the option of swats OR after school studies! Girls were not given that option.  IF I remember correctly parents permission was not required????  Gosh! Uh oh I think I am sounding like an old geeztress! Yikes!

I so remember the “paddles” in 4th grade I remember the principal having a huge one in his office.  I was a good kid too but I witnessed the power that the paddle held.

Zsa Zsa welcome to my world of “old geeztresses”.  Except that I really only feel old when we talk of things like this!

Back to the police in the school. Where do we draw the line? The problem is that there are people out there whose kid would commit an offendse worse than peeing their pants and if the police were called in to handle the situation, the parents would argue that their kids offense was no different than the peeing of the pants so why weren’t the police called then?  It’s sad that the school was probably only trying to protect themselves. Stupid and sad.

I agree give some power back to the parents.  But with that power comes responsibility. Something that a lot of parents (who shouldn’t be parents) do not posses.

NDGAL on January 5, 2007 at 08:58 am

NDGAL… I agree many many parents are parents that really shouldn’t be. BUT it seems to me that in todays world the Disrespect for authority is out of hand because all a kid has to do is accuse a parent OR a teacher OR authority figure of assault or whatever and the Parent is in deep trouble??? I know there are perverted weirdo saddistic creeps out there BUT maybe instead of Police being brought in to do the job? Parents and Teachers and Principals and Counselors could participate in some type of action, First? You would think the other school children would give that child enough problems on their own to embarrass the kid into behaving? Silly me. Whay do I know?…

I told you… a diploma does not make an educator.  Diplomas sometimes create idiots.

A very wise man used to comment about people who were “educated beyond their intelligence”.

Couldn’t have said better myself!!  Some people who are very intelligent are basically very dumb.

"Much learning hath made thee mad”.

Too much learning at the expense of practice and common sense can be a bad thing—especially when that person gets elected.

The public schools have lost just about all control and reason for existence.
They lost their main focus on education soon after 1965.

This is really funny--thank you, Whistler, for further encouraging my family to homeschool!  :^)

Chief: When my sister graduated from high school in 1963, Latin was a graduation requirement. When my brother graduated from high school in 1966, Latin was an elective.
By the time I graduated in 1968, it wasn’t even offered at my high school.

Not only have educators watered down the cirriculum, they are always quick to try these “new and inovative” programs.  Most of which fail misrable.  The superintendant of the small school my kids attended in Alaska heard about the open classroom concept and jumped right on it.  After two misrable years, the administration put the walls back up.  Thank goodness for a good solid school board who finally had the guts to say “No, put the walls back up.”

And for heavens sake let’s not offend the parents of the disruptive students… after all they have the right to an education too!!!  Never mind that your kids and mine are suffering because of the disruptions.  If my kids were in school today you can bet I’d be home schooling.

Carol,

Or have us at Bishop Ryan!  Right!

Great school, great teachers, disruptive students are not tolerated and the education is exceptional!

Nope, he’s farther west near Pittsburgh if I remember correctly. However, it is ten minutes down the road from my apartment. Haven’t heard about this story, but Danville is tiny (can’t wait till I can leave the area) so I’m sure I’ll hear about the fallout. I’ll keep you posted if anything develops.

Andrew on January 5, 2007 at 06:54 pm

Thanks.

I was waiting for 2h9 to let us know that if he ever wet his pants in school it was because he damn well felt like it and what are you going to do about it!

Another reason to home school over the public school is the policy of “zero tolerance” which translates to “zero common sense” : A two inch toy gun equates to “bringing a gun to school”. Being caught with an aspirin equates to “bringing drugs”. No tolerance. No common sense.

Whereas with home schooling you can give the kids a practical lesson in ballistics.

And use any textbook you like, like:
