Environmentalists: Building Keystone Pipeline Would Raise Global Temperatures 0.36 Degrees Celsius

Written By:

Apparently, even that tiny a change in global temperatures could be a “shortcut to catastrophic climate change,” according to Scientific American:

A new analysis by scientists at the University of Victoria in British Columbia suggests burning all those proven reserves would release enough CO2 to warm the climate by only one 20th of a degree Celsius. Global warming to date is 15 times that.

And if humanity figured out a way to burn all 1.8 trillion barrels of bitumen in the tar sands? That would warm things by 0.36 degrees Celsius.

I find it a little hard to believe that climate scientists, who haven’t been able to accurately model global temperatures over the last decade, can predict the impact of just Keystone-transported oil on global temperatures over the course of decades to come.

What is really irritating is that for all the blather from the environmentalists about putting “science over politics,” etc., etc., they end up touting nonsense like this which promotes public distrust and hostility towards science in general. Good science, real science, gets obscured by water-muddying, politically-motivated nonsense like this.

The real war on science is coming from the left.
