Entitlement Society: Lottery Winner Says She’ll Keep Taking Food Stamps

Everybody is outraged by the fact that she has a lot of money now – $700,000 after taxes, apparently – but will stay on the government dole. What struck me was the fact that she was spending money on lottery tickets while on food stamps.

If you have money to gamble, why does the government have to feed you?

Really, this is just a “sign of the times” for where our society is at right now. We have an entire political party on the left that, as part of their 2012 campaign platform, is claiming that Republicans are fighting a “war on women” because they expect women to pay for their own contraception.

Contraceptives are extremely affordable, costing just dollars per month for the pill, and condoms are cheap too if not handed out for free by government agencies and private organizations across the country. Yet, still, Democrats insist we must have a contraceptive entitlement.

And if you disagree, you hate women.

What bothers me most about this clip is that this woman apparently feels no shame in being on the government dole even after getting a cash windfall.

Everybody wants to live at the expense of everybody else, I guess.

No one who collects a government check or subsidy should be allowed to gamble it!

There is gambling and then there are slot machines, lotteries, pull tabs, etc.

Sure doesn’t seem right to me.
But now nutters believe means testing is a good idea? OK then.

Hey, why not eliminate the multi billion dollar tax breaks to oil companies. After all, they only have posted multi billion dollar record profits.

    • toomuchguvmint

If special depreciation allowances apply to businesses,  why should not these same depreciation rules apply to oil companies?  Sounds to me you are interested in seeing the poor have to pay more for gas prices by increasing the costs for oil companies that are passed on to the consumers.  Or perhaps you think congress should pass laws requiring oil companies to  means test gas prices.

    • Guest

If the oil companies lose their tax deductions, and they have to pay more, who do you think the oil companies will hit to make up the loss?

We can always count on you, Boob, to spew the liberal BS.  Check this out…

“As the chart shows, renewable energy is far more heavily subsidized by tax carveouts than any other energy sector, including fossil fuels.

The chart does not, however, take into account the level of those subsidies in proportion to the amount of energy that each sector creates. By that measure, renewables’ federal subsidies are even more lopsided.

As Heritage’s David Kreutzer has pointed out, wind energy companies, for instance, get about 1000 times the subsidies that oil companies do, per kilowatt-hour of energy produced.”

  • fedupny

She has now been kicked off……apparently there is legislation already in the works because of a previous lottery winner in 2010…

“Legislation in Lansing would require lottery and other gambling winnings
to factor into eligibility for government food assistance programs. The
legislation comes after a Bay County man last spring said he continued
using food stamps despite winning a $2 million lottery prize in 2010.”

Don’t they have to list “assets” when they apply for food stamps?

this woman apparently feels no shame…

Shame comes from the recognition of wrong.  It is a consequence of bad decisions.  Liberals don’t do consequences, ergo they have no shame.

I know it’s like beating a dead horse but ,again, we are presented with an ugly Democrat. This gal should spend, at least, a portion of that money on reconstructive facial surgery.   Make’s me think Sandra Fluck was an actress, as she was fairly attractive.

    They cut her off.
“Under DHS policy, a recipient of food
assistance benefits must notify the state within 10 days of any asset or
income change. DHS relies on clients being forthcoming about their
actual financial status.  If they are not, and continue to accept
benefits, they may face criminal investigation and be required to pay
    back those benefits.”

    • Onslaught1066

They could just fine her $500,000 and just like that she could be back on food stamps where she obviously feels more comfortable.
