Either We Win Or You Cheated
That’s liberal Robert Kuttner’s claim in today’s Boston Globe-Democrat, offered without irony (Democrats are, after all, the “vote early and often” party).
”[U]nless there are levels of theft and fraud that would truly mean the end of American democracy, a Democratic House seems as close to a sure thing as we ever get in American politics three days before an election… November 2006 will be remembered either as the time American democracy was stolen again, maybe forever, or began a brighter day. “
Last week, Democrats were complaining that black voters weren’t going to turn out because they’re assuming the elections are rigged, anyway. Now the dopes at the NYTimes-Boston Bureau tell them they’re probably right. Brilliant.
Democrat sore losers in 2000, 2002 and 2004 have had an awful impact on this country. I’ve already heard media reports of Democrats amassing armies of lawyers to send to the polls on November 7th to observe voting, and you can bet that if the voting doesn’t go the way Democrats want that there will be lawsuits.
You see, Democrats can’t ever just accept their electoral defeats. When it happens, rather than review their policy decisions and ideological stance to find out what it is the public doesn’t like, they accuse people of cheating. They file lawsuits and hatch conspiracy theories and, this is the saddest part of all, their allies in the media are always all too happy to go along for the ride.
What makes me angry is that even as their constant conspiracy mongering about vote fraud undermines public confidence in our democratic process, they simultaneously oppose legislation (voter ID laws) that would make our polls more secure from vote fraud. What makes me even angrier is that all their bluster and legal maneuvering has yet to reveal any sort of election day conspiracies that go beyond the sort of small-time fraud that we’ve been seeing since the first vote was deposited in a ballot box. It just isn’t working for the Dems. It isn’t turning any elections, so the only thing all these Democrat sour grapes have accomplished is to undermine our democratic process.
That’s pathetic, but expect it to happen again if the Dems don’t get the outcome they’re expecting on November 7th. The Democrats have been confident in victory, and the media has been all but declaring the election over since well over a month ago. But when the GOP retains control of both houses of Congress (and I am confident that’s what will end up happening), you can count on the left going nuts.
