Edwards: You Get No Choice When It Comes To Health Care

Edwards will make you go to the doctor whether you like it or not.

“I’m mandating healthcare for every man woman and child in America and that’s the only way to have real universal healthcare.”

“Evertime you go into contact with the helathcare system or the govenment you will be signed up.”

During a press avail following the event Edwards reiterated his mandate:

“Basically every time they come into contact with either the healthcare system or the government, whether it’s payment of taxes, school, going to the library, whatever it is they will be signed up.”

When asked by a reporter if an individual decided they didn’t want healthcare Edwards quickly responded, “You don’t get that choice.“

I wonder if there will be exceptions for people with religious objections to certain types of medical procedures.  Will they be forced to go to the doctor?  And how will Edwards enforce this.  Will the National Institutes of Health get an enforcement branch?  Armed agents to knock on our doors and escort us to our appointments if we decide not to go?

And how does Edwards’ statements on health care square with his rhetoric on abortion?  Here’s an answer from Edwards to a question about abortion from the Democrat debate in South Carolina back in April:

Q: What is your view on the decision on partial-birth abortion and most of the public agreeing with the court’s holding?

A: This decision by the Supreme Court is a perfect example of what’s at stake in this election. The kind of people that will be appointed to the US Supreme Court by the next president will control whether a woman’s freedom, freedom to choose, make her own health care decisions will be made by her or will be made by the government or by some men sitting on the US Supreme Court.

So it’s ok for pregnant women to make their own health care decisions, but not anyone else.  Is that how it is?

Also, does the government get to dictate to me the type of care I receive?  If the government is paying all the doctors and forcing me to go to these doctors, can I choose an alternative treatment for my cancer if I feel it will work better for me?  Or will the bureaucrats decide that costs too much?

Put simply, Edwards’ plan is flat-out totalitarianism.  But at least he’s being honest about that.  The plans offered by Obama and Hillary Clinton lead to totalitarianism as well, they’re just dressed up a little more to make it appear as though they don’t.

Comments

John Edwards is an intellectual and political lightweight whose campaign is floundering… badly.  The irrational paradox of Edwards’ utterances only serves to highlight the fact that if Edwards couldn’t manage to retain a seat in the US Senate, he certainly isn’t qualified for any higher office, much less the presidency.  The rear end in Edwards’ headlights is that of Dennis Kucinich.

Wow. Hand the man some more rope and broadcast his “You don’t get that choice.” dictate far and wide. We have a political suicide going on here and I call dibs on front row seats.

This is exactly what Hillary is working towards. Her big plan in the early ‘90s created 50 new federal crimes concerning people accessing doctors, hospitals, and treatments, and against doctors, nurses, and all other medical professionals.

Edwards is no different, and never has been.

I can’t help but wonder exactly where Mr. Edwards thinks the legal authority for the mandates he proposes actually comes from.  Edwards is known to have graduated from law school and passed a state bar exam, so presumably he would know something about constitutional law, the separation of powers doctrine, and the legal limits imposed on each of the three branches of our federal government.

So, again, where the hell does he think the legal authority for what he’s proposed come from?  It is one thing for the government to criminalize a particular activity and say, in effect, “Thou shalt not...” But it quite another thing entirely for government to demand that each of us will do so-and-so or else.

Perhaps Edwards just slept through the theoretical portions of those Con Law classes.

The status quo on health coverage is the best way for the brainless Americans to really learn their lesson on this. There are only about 50 million uninsured Americans now. The best plan is to wait until that number reaches 150 million, and once people are sick and dying in mass numbers, then maybe, just maybe something will change. Meanwhile, let’s all start a “health savings account” so we can save up enough to buy a day in the hospital.

There are only about 50 million uninsured Americans now.

Where did that number come from and how come it jumps up millions every time some socialist politician or his lackey (that would be you) brings it up?

If you’re in between jobs and you don’t have insurance for ONE day: congratulations! You’re now included in the 42 43 44 “50 million Americans without health care insurance”.

If you’re an illegal alien who doesn’t have health care insurance: congratulations! You’re now included in the 42 43 44 “50 million Americans without health care insurance”. You’re not an American, but who the fuck cares? The partisan socialists are counting your head.

This is exactly the reason for the 2nd Amendment…

Fascist, why are you shilling for the insurance industry?

Where did I get my numbers on how many people are uninsured?

http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/hlthins/hlthin06/hlth06asc.html

In particular, read this:

“Both the percentage and the number of people without health insurance increased in 2006. The percentage without health insurance increased from 15.3 percent in 2005 to 15.8 percent in 2006 and the number of uninsured increased from 44.8 million to 47.0 million.”

So, OOOPS, I said 50 million and it is “only” 47 million. Forgive me for rounding the number by 3 whole million.

Aside from that, my real point was missed: I WANT the status quo, because I want to see the rightwing insanity to run its course in its entirety. If you rub rightwing crap in people’s face for a long enough period of time, eventually the morons will get it, and rightwing insanity will join Nazism in the dustbins of history.

Throw out the illegal immigrants out of that 47 million and you’ve got more like 35.  Throw out those that can afford it but don’t bother to pay for it you’ve got more like 24 million.  Throw out the the ones that will soon be covered and the numbers more like 12 million.  Throw out the ones eligible for medicaid and SCHIP and the number’s like 5 million that fall through the cracks somehow.

Yeah we need to turn the whole thing over to the government to fix a problem of 1.5% of the population.  (Who probably could work but don’t.)

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

And fascist still does not tell us why it, a socialist, is shilling for the largest, most corrupt industry on the planet. Why is that, fascist? Why are you sucking insurance company c**k? Lets us hear your very valid reason for being a whore.

You’re an idiot. Nobody here is arguing for the status quo.

But don’t let the facts get in the way of your mindless insults.

Let us know when you’re here for honest discussion.
