Easter Gun Porn

My daughter holding a “poor man’s tommy gun.”

It’s a Volunteer Enterprises (changed its name to Commando Arms in the 1970′s) Mark III .45 semi-automatic rifle (serial number 18064) with a 30 round clip.

Its in decent shape. My wife’s grandfather bought it off of someone else. I think it’s probably in working condition. The action still moves smoothly and the clip is in good shape. The only thing I’m worried about is that it looks like someone might have done a home repair to the exterior plate behind the action. It probably needs to see a gunsmith before being fired.
I actually don’t know much about Volunteer Enterprises/Commando Arms. I know this is pretty much just a Thompson knock off, but can anyone out there fill me in on some more details about the company and gun?

pic, what was the point of this post?

And to clear the air, so to speak, are you a law enforcement officer? Do you work for any law enforcement agency?

Hey Rob, It’s a MAGAZINE not a clip.

Sorry, that drives me nuts.. other than that, looks to be in decent shape.

Info on the Mk III Commando

Tennessee Volunteer Arms Commando MK. 45

The Tennessee Volunteer Arms Commando Mk. 45. It’s a replica of the Thompson submachine gun, which uses M3 grease gun mags. My example is configured with a wooden grip under the barrel as the gun was produced for military issue, rather than the pistol grip on this example.

Commando Mark 45Q: A friend of mine asked me to look at a semiauto version of the old Thompson submachine gun. It is made by Volunteer Enterprises and stamped “Commando Mark 45.” The serial number is 57XXX. It’s in about 98 percent condition. Can you give me some background information and an approximate value? –A.K., Indianapolis, IN

A: Volunteer Enterprises manufactured the Commando Mark III Carbine in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1969 to 1976. These semiauto blowback weapons look very much like the 1928 Thompson submachine gun. After 1978 Volunteer Enterprises became Commando Arms. In 98 percent condition, your Tommy Gun lookalike should command $500. Guns and Ammo Magazine.

    hi,
a good friend’s uncle was the owner of Volunteer Arms. It is now out of business and has been for some time. The tooling for these Thompsons are stored in the deceased uncle’s son’s basement. we have tried to talk him into getting his ffl and making a new run, but as you know these arent top quality rifles and would have to be priced modestly.

i have fired a 9mm Volunteer Arms Thompson and decided it wasnt for me. horrendous trigger and seemed to have headspace issues, but it went bang every time. used STEN mags that had been slightly compressed in a vice.

if i can help you any, pls post here again and i’ll email you. i dont want to post my email for every idiot to copy on a public board.

(all login info with this post is bogus)

Even an atheist like you should thank God that girl is gorgeous and looks nothing like you! Seriously, she is a really cute kid!

Like Marx and Lenin said, get’em when they are young!!

Oh, my Garand takes clips, my AK takes magazines.

The first full auto weapon I fired as a young’un was a M1A1 Thompson, instructed by a Mud Marine. MZ and Nman know what I mean.

the clip is in good shape.

That’s like fingernails on a chalkboard, to me…

I know, that you know… It is a mag.

    And it’s not mine.

    You mean it’s hers???

    Yes, she is cute.

    Yes, the choppa looks fine.

But daaaannnnng! It’s the Gyrene in me that goes high and to the right when I hear clip being used in lieu of magazine.

    A-a-ight. I’ll hush up now.

So the question of the day for me is…drum roll please…Will these weapons take the Thompson style .45 drum magazines? I have been gifted one by my father in law and wish to add to its firing capacity. I already have other toys of similiar fun. And as a retired marine I love to burn massive quantities of ammo so much fun…

    hate your politics…love your gun…
I just inherited an auto ordinance Thompson that looks exactly like yours…

mine has never been fired…value new is about $1500
that is all I know…oh wait, Bush sucks, I know that also.

Clip vs. Magazine thing…my bad. I like guns. Never said I knew everything about them.

Imagine, the gun above isn’t a an actual Thompson but a Thompson replica made by Tennessee Volunteer Arms, apparently in the 1960′s or 1970′s. And it’s not mine.
