Easter Gun Porn

My daughter holding a “poor man’s tommy gun.”

image

It’s a Volunteer Enterprises (changed its name to Commando Arms in the 1970’s) Mark III .45 semi-automatic rifle (serial number 18064) with a 30 round clip.

Its in decent shape.  My wife’s grandfather bought it off of someone else.  I think it’s probably in working condition.  The action still moves smoothly and the clip is in good shape.  The only thing I’m worried about is that it looks like someone might have done a home repair to the exterior plate behind the action.  It probably needs to see a gunsmith before being fired.

I actually don’t know much about Volunteer Enterprises/Commando Arms.  I know this is pretty much just a Thompson knock off, but can anyone out there fill me in on some more details about the company and gun?

What a cutie!  I’m sure you’ve heard this plenty, but how did she come from you?

Even an atheist like you should thank God that girl is gorgeous and looks nothing like you! Seriously, she is a really cute kid!

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

Yes, she is cute.

Yes, the choppa looks fine.

But daaaannnnng!  It’s the Gyrene in me that goes high and to the right when I hear clip being used in lieu of magazine.

A-a-ight.  I’ll hush up now.

Info on the Mk III Commando

Tennessee Volunteer Arms Commando MK. 45

The Tennessee Volunteer Arms Commando Mk. 45. It’s a replica of the Thompson submachine gun, which uses M3 grease gun mags. My example is configured with a wooden grip under the barrel as the gun was produced for military issue, rather than the pistol grip on this example.

Commando Mark 45Q: A friend of mine asked me to look at a semiauto version of the old Thompson submachine gun. It is made by Volunteer Enterprises and stamped “Commando Mark 45.” The serial number is 57XXX. It’s in about 98 percent condition. Can you give me some background information and an approximate value? --A.K., Indianapolis, IN

A: Volunteer Enterprises manufactured the Commando Mark III Carbine in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1969 to 1976. These semiauto blowback weapons look very much like the 1928 Thompson submachine gun. After 1978 Volunteer Enterprises became Commando Arms. In 98 percent condition, your Tommy Gun lookalike should command $500. Guns and Ammo Magazine.

Clip vs. Magazine thing...my bad.  I like guns.  Never said I knew everything about them.

Imagine, the gun above isn’t a an actual Thompson but a Thompson replica made by Tennessee Volunteer Arms, apparently in the 1960’s or 1970’s.  And it’s not mine.

Like Marx and Lenin said, get’em when they are young!!

Oh, my Garand takes clips, my AK takes magazines.

The first full auto weapon I fired as a young’un was a M1A1 Thompson, instructed by a Mud Marine. MZ and Nman know what I mean.
