Earl Pomeroy’s Statement on His Vote Against the Cap and Trade Tax

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Last week, Rob’s Congressman, Earl Pomeroy, voted against the Cap and Trade Tax. I don’t often agree with Pomeroy. In general I think he does what Nancy Pelosi tells him to do.
But in this case Earl Voted correctly. Good job! If I can bash him when he does something I disagree with I ought to thank him when he votes correctly.

I am concerned about the prospects that North Dakotans may face significantly higher electricity rates under the proposed cap and trade provisions. As you well know, North Dakota winters are long and cold, and require us to use substantial amounts of energy to heat our homes. We rank fourth in the country in energy consumption per capita, and over 90 percent of the electricity we use comes from coal-fired plants. So, major increases in electricity rates will hit us especially hard.
In addition, our state has a large coal industry, which provides 28,000 direct and indirect jobs. The House climate change bill sets unrealistic emission reduction targets that would likely cause a major switch from coal to other, more expensive fuel sources. This would lead not only to higher energy costs for North Dakotans, but also increased unemployment from the potential closing of coal mines and coal-fired power plants.

I’m sure that some may question why he voted this way. From where I sit a vote the right way is a good thing no matter what.

Might be a good idea to write and let him know. A little positive feedback couldn’t hurt!

According to Scott Hennen Earl committed against the Cap and Trade Tax a week before the vote. I think your theory is probably not the way it is.

Color me surprised, but I think Earl got it right on his own.

Just remember that he is up for re-election and more than likly received permission from princess pelosi based on “it will be good for the party in the long run” I’m sorry to be so cynical but but his previous actions show his lack of concern for what is good for North Dakota causes such cynicisim.

That’s a good point Proof. They’re phone lines get smoked before the vote. An email after the fact is probably more valuable because of how few they actually get.

Pelosi and company knew for weeks that this vote was coming and no doubt were negotiating as to who would be allowed to vote against this bill. Don’t give Earl any credit for doing the right thing. His vote was not cast with the concerns of North Dakota in mind. It was cast with concerns of seniority, committee membership, and party power in mind.

I do agree that we should be calling his office. Not to thank him, but to pass along our demands that he now get his cohorts, Larry Dorgan and Moe Conrad to vote against the bill when it comes to the Senate.

See what kind of an answer you get from that demand. These three guys need to go. They are nothing but Nancy Pelosi’s lap dogs waiting for her to throw them a bone every once in a while.

I did email him and thank him. I don’t care frankly, as long as he does the right thing. Unless something comes out showing one way or another, I don’t think you can be SURE what his real motive was, so I am going to take him at his word, that he knows this is unrealistic and will destroy our economy. Is he afraid this vote would harm him in the election? Yes, of course, but again…I don’t care if that is his motive, in the end he did the right thing, so I thanked him for it. I also of course let him know beforehand..lol

I don’t think it was a sure thing at all a week ago. Colinitis “The Sellout” Peterson had it locked up in his committee.

So if Pomeroy voted against the grain of his demcratic party, why are we not seeing his face all over the Sunday talk shows, the evening cable shows, and the network newscasts? Why isn’t there a big show exposing the fracture in the democratic party and show-casing the reasoning and the logic behind his vote which is going against the rest of the democratic party? Why isn’t he being praised for his insight, his independence, and his honesty in breaking free of the poitical grasp of the democratic party? That’s what happens when McCain, or Graham, or Snow, or Spector, or Collins votes against his/her party. (begin sarcasm) I can’t figure out what the difference is. (end sarcasm)

Earl is inarticulate. I was really surprised the first time I heard him stammer and stutter his way through an interview.

He is from ND. He is a congressman from ND. He is as significant as a pimple on pelosi’s butt as far as national news/
If he was significant he would be on Fox. They like to trot out the renegade democrat.

So I’m not the only one who thinks so. The first time I heard him, I wondered if he was drunk or had a speech impediment. His politics aside, I’m amazed that, in our soundbite-crazy culture, he got into office when he comes across so badly.

This is the same statement I got in Earl’s email reply. I had also told him about the alleged withholding of info from EPA which was critical of gorebull warming but he failed to address in the reply.

Well said. If thanks are due, let’s thank pelosi for letting him vote against the bill.

He is not all bad. He wrestled some guy who was threatening down once. Ex wrestler he knows how to work.

This was all about Pomeroy being up for re-election, that and handing out cheeseburgers during the flood and he’s a shoe in next year. And people think MN voters are stupid….Pomeroid, Dorkan, & Conrodent….I rest my case.

  • The real “one”

OMG Roy , I saw him speak over a year ago, I was praying he was drunk, because God forbid if he was sobber and that is how he is in Washington. The three stoges must get simpathey from their counter parts in Washington , so they through pet projects their way to look good
