Earl Pomeroy’s Empty Gesture On Carbon Regulation Has Zero Co-Sponsors
Yesterday I pointed out that, right after announcing his re-election bid, Rep. Earl Pomeroy finally decided to try and do something about the possibility of devastating (for North Dakota industry) new EPA regulations on carbon emissions.
You’d think that if Pomeroy were serious about this he’d have done something before the EPA grabbed this regulatory authority for itself, back when it was a mere possibility, but whatever.
What’s interesting is that Pomeroy’s bill has exactly 0 co-sponsors. That’s a pretty sad commentary for an entrenched incumbent who is prone to championing his experience, seniority and power in Washington DC.
As I also pointed out yesterday, there is already a bill introduced in the House that would accomplish exactly what Pomeroy is setting out to do. It was introduced by Rep. Marsha Blackburn and has 148 co-sponsors, both Democrat and Republican.
So ask yourself this: If Pomeroy really introduced his bill to accomplish something other than using it as some sort of electoral party favor to provide the appearance of taking this issue seriously, why wouldn’t he sign on to an already-established bill with widespread, bi-partisan support?
It’s undoubtedly because Pomeroy wants to create the appearance of trying to protect North Dakota industry from burdensome and unnecessary federal regulation without actually accomplishing any such thing.
