Dressing Conservatism Up Like Britney Spears?

That’s what James Carville’s wife thinks we should do.

Republicans must resolve their own questions: Can they reconstitute conservatism to make it attractive once again beyond the party’s base? GOP strategist Mary Matalin said the Reaganite model of low taxes, smaller government and strong defense can again serve the party well, if it is updated. “It needs to put some Britney Spears clothes on it,” she said.

Hmm…

I’m not sure that’s a very good look.

Besides, isn’t this what “compassionate conservatism” was all about in the first place?  “Dressing up” conservatism so that it was more appealing (more sexy to use Matalin’s metaphor) for the masses?

I think that’s what led to the Republicans falling out of favor with the public to begin with.  Rather than educating the public about ideals like limited government and lower taxes, Republicans over the last several years have been trying to “dress up” conservatism to make it appear to be something that it’s not.  Witness the President’s Medicare prescription drug disaster as evidence of that.

I think the time for “dress up” is over.  It’s time for Republicans to be real, unapologetic conservatives and convince voter once again that they are the party who will cut taxes and limit government power.  Because the voters have most certainly forgotten that.

Im not sure our Republican party even showed up at the polls this time! They must not have! What the hell were they thinking if they did? Iraq has been painted by the left that there has never been a plan to exit, which was never true, the plan has always been to stand the Iraqi’s up Militarily and we stand down and come home, but not before we keep the place from turning into terrorist haven.

We never got the the message out very much on the economy which is kicking butt, well until the Dems are in control. Not that us bloggers didnt try!

Why was our message never presented to the Public clearly? Or was it and it was buried by the Liberal Media?

Then you have the Liberals who have infiltrated our school system, brainwashed, and molding our young voters minds to be far left Lunatics, we see this with the likes of Ward Churchill.

Then we have the Liberal Media, New York Times, LA Times etc, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, etc, where ANYTHING in the way of corruption, or a bomb going off in Baghdad hits page 1, or is the lead story on the nightly news. But when it comes to Liberal corruption, it’s buried on page 16 somewhere in the New York Times and never mentioned at all on the nightly news!

If we dont combat these problems, I dont see us winning anything anytime soon.

Republicans Blame Election Losses On Democrats

Excuse me, you were saying?

You know what’s funny about all of this? If the Republicans had won, the Dems would have had thousands of lawyers all yelling that the elections were “stolen”. They had those lawyers lined up for just such a scenario.

Where are those lawyers now?

What about Diebold again? I guess they must have switched sides and have now “stolen” the election for the Democrats.

See the difference? Democrats are sore losers to the point of infantile baby-like behavior. Republicans just trudge on and look towards the future.

Thanks for helping me with my diet, Rob.  :^)

Seriously, I think Matalin’s got a great point but a horrendous metaphor.  Certainly the GOP needs to learn to communicate with the public again--find some good speakers and communicate the facts to them about what big government really entails, and communicate how the GOP will work against that.

But the metaphor is horrendous.  Anyone who overcomes the hormonal response to the “brothel chic” clothing Mrs. Federline is infamous for realizes quickly that she’s more or less insane to divert attention from her face.

In the same way, Republicans would be insane to stoop to a political “brothel chic” for the sake of a few temporary votes because it obscures the basic fact that liberty is in itself beautiful.
