Dorgan Starts Campaign For Re-Election Two Years Early

Why so early? Probably for two reasons.

First, all three members of North Dakota’s federal delegation have connections to big-time national liberal interests and their re-election campaigns are a convenient way to funnel money from those interests down to local state Democrat races.  The North Dakota Democrats survive on out of state money.  Without it many of their local campaigns would likely shrivel up and die, so having Grandpa Dorgan in Washington collecting money early helps them a lot.

Second, I think Dorgan is probably getting ready for a Hoeven run at the Senate in 2010.  By putting things in motion early Dorgan will probably prompt the eventual Democrat nominee for Governor to ask Hoeven is he’s going to fulfill a full term in Bismarck or leave it to run against Dorgan.  They’ll want to get Hoeven to promise a full term as he did in 2004 when they pressured him into saying he wouldn’t run against Kent Conrad in 2006, but I’m guessing that Hoeven isn’t likely to do that again.

And, frankly, despite my misgivings about Hoeven as a Governor I’d support him to replace Dorgan.  He may not be very conservative, but he’d be better than Dorgan.

We have lived in Minot for a few years now and I still can’t figure out why these guys keep getting elected every election. Is it due to the amt of pork they bring in or because people perceive them as being more powerful than they are or what? Who would be the type of person who could beat one of them? Could Hoeven pull it off?

I think the big thing is that they get a free pass from the North Dakota press on what they are doing in Washington contrary to North Dakota values.

That, the pork and the fact that ND voters seem to feel obligated to support the incumbent explain it I think.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Of course for Dorgan and Conrad the campaign’s never over.

We expect so little from our political reps in Washington, and they meet those expectations.

As a conservative, I definitely support Hoeven for Senate.  Why?  To get him the hell out of Bismarck.
