Don’t You Have To Be Mean to Snub a Nine Year Old Reporter

Clinton rudeness holds no bounds:

Sydney Rieckhoff, a Cedar Rapids fourth grader and “kid reporter” for Scholastic News, has posed questions to seven Republican and Democratic presidential hopefuls as they’ve campaigned across Iowa this year. But when she approached the 27-year-old Chelsea after a campaign event Sunday, she got a different response.

“Do you think your dad would be a good ‘first man’ in the White House?” Sydney asked, but Chelsea brushed her question aside.

“I’m sorry, I don’t talk to the press and that applies to you, unfortunately. Even though I think you’re cute,” Chelsea told the pint-sized journalist.

Hillary why is your campaign mean to nine year olds?

Chelsea wasn’t rude.

She doesn’t want to be quoted in the campaign so she doesn’t answer questions.  You know for a fact that even if she answers a question for a 9 year old that it would be carried in all the press.  She is a private citizen and that is her perogative.

Guliani’s children would have pointed out that they are voting for other people.

Lestat on December 30, 2007 at 09:44 pm

This is silly. Chelsea is not Hillary’s “campaign”. She’s probably tired of being hounded by stupid reporters. And she knows that if she answers a 9 yo, the rest will hound her.

When we look at the “socialist paradise” that is Cuba, we must remember that a sizable share of the misery those people suffer is directly attributable to Che Guevara bringing Castro into power, and giving him many of the policies that have caused so much pain. The real symbol of Che should be the raft, to remind us of all those who have died on rafts in the ocean trying to escape the Cuban nightmare and get to freedom. And had he not been killed, begging for his life like a coward, he would’ve done the same thing again and again in countries all throughout Latin and South America. His actions have inspired terrorists across a continent and caused countless deaths.

Robert Haag on December 30, 2007 at 11:13 pm

These quotes from Hillary give you an example of how Chelsea was raised. If you would have the President refer to the American Flag as “the f’ing flag” elect this piece of trash.

“Where is the g*dd*mn f*cking flag? I want the g*dd*mn f*cking flag up every f*cking morning at f*cking sunrise.” Said by the First Lady of Arkansas to her staff at the Arkansas governor’s mansion on Labor Day, 1991. (Inside the White House, p. 244).

“F*ck off! It’s enough that I have to see you sh*t-kickers every day. I’m not going to talk to you, too. Just do your g*dd*mn job and keep your mouth shut.” Said to her Arkansas state trooper bodyguards, after one of them deigned to greet her with “good morning.” (American Evita, p. 90)

“[You] f*cking idiot.” To a state trooper who was driving her to an event. (Crossfire, p. 84). Describing Hillary’s general personality, Larry Gleghorn, a former state trooper, said: “She was a bitch day in and day out” (The First Partner, p. 119).

“That sorry son of a bitch.” That is what Hillary would often refer to Bill around the mansion of the Arkansas’s governor’s mansion, according to state trooper Larry Patterson.

“Personal, trained pigs.” Gary Aldrich reported that as America’s First Lady, “[Hillary] had a clear dislike for the agents (U.S. Secret Service), bordering on hatred… Two Secret Service agents heard Hillary’s daughter Chelsea refer to them as ‘personal, trained pigs’ … The agent on the detail tried to scold Chelsea for such disrespect. He told her … he believed that her father, the president, would be shocked if he heard what she had just said to her friends. Chelsea’s response? ‘I don’t think so. That’s what my parents call you’ ” (Unlimited Access, p. 90).

I don’t have a problem with her not giving interviews, or telling the kid that - she wasn’t even rude or mean, just sticking to the idiotic, “zero tolerance,” mentality that has entered society that prevents common sense from allowing you to do something that would impress a 9 year old.

What gets me is this:

Tall and attractive, Chelsea cuts an impressive figure on the campaign trail; she plunges enthusiastically into the crowd after her mother’s speeches, shaking hands and posing for pictures while asking, “Are you going to caucus for my mom?”

Seriously, is BETH FOUHY from the AP trying to get a date with Chelsea or what?

I haven’t heard such sucking up since, well, Bill Clinton was running.

It was Socialtwit who made the big deal about the Bush twins. (I think sarcasm counts as stupid insults. And scum probably isn’t a word it uses to describe its mother!) Chelsea is obviously not as an accomplished a liar as her parents are; she didn’t have a talking point ready for a 9-year old’s question, and the public has the right to know that.  Whether or not you call it “mean” is irrelevant.  An informed public will decide about her treatment of that little girl.  If she is going to campaign for her mother, she should have her script memorized.

On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, ”Did you know there’s a White House dog?” Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.

The only time I ever had a bad thought about Chelsea was completely by accident! Bill Clinton was being inaugurated and was standing next to Chelsea, who came us to about his shoulder at the time.
In a group shot, the camera angle showing Bill’s head on top of Chelsea’s extremely curly hair (the back of her head, none of the rest of her) made it look like Bill Clinton was wearing a chicken suit to the inauguration!

Go look for yourselves if you can find any of that video! The back of Chelsea’s head with Bill Clinton’s head atop it looks remarkably like a man in a chicken suit! smile

Exactly.  The lapdog MSM obediently obeyed Clinton’s command to leave his daughter alone, but since Rush isn’t Clinton’s lapdog, he was free to express his opinion.  I think that’s called Free Speech; it’s in our Constitution.  The lapdog MSM said it would make a rule not to go after any children of the President, but soon forgot that when our present President was elected.  The hypocritical double standard was with the MSM, not with Rush.  He made no such policy.

I was young when Clinton was elected so I don’t know for sure, but I swear I remember Chelsea always getting blasted for her looks back then. However, this was mostly on late-night comedy shows and such.

I also don’t think you can really compare Chelsea’s treatment by the MSM to that of the Bush twins. The Bush twins were mainly in the news due to their partying, which to some could be considered news (I don’t think it is, though). Whereas the media would have looked rather foolish and cruel to write stories about how ugly a 13 year old girl was.

Perhaps the Bush twins put themselves in more situations where the media could portray them in a bad way (i.e. partying, underage drinking, etc). Maybe Chelsea didn’t party as much, or in as many public places (I could be wrong. If you have any info to the contrary, I’d be more likely to agree with you). And as I mentioned before, it’s fair for the newspapers to criticize someone’s actions (as in the case of the Bush daughters), but not someone’s physical appearance (as with Chelsea).

But overall I think we can both agree that media should have left both the twins and Chelsea alone in the first place. And I definately don’t disagree that the MSM is guilty of numerous double standards; I just don’t happen to see as much in this case.

It’s NYE, and I’m heading out the door after this post, but I want to clarify.

YES - Chelsae is ugly.  People can scream it at the tops of their lungs. (however, I hardly find something like that news worthy… just as a couple of college girls going out drinking is less than news worthy...)

But why on earth should it matter what age the reporter is that she snubbed?  Had she snubbed an adult would someone cry foul for whatever other reason? (race, religion, sex, whatever...) If children are untouchable, why don’t we throw them into the mix all of the time?  (Other countries do it by giving their children hand grenades and rifles.) If a child is going to play adult, then the child has to expect to receive adult treatment - and if that means getting snubbed, then so be it.

Having a child work in an adult world is similar to people who use wives of dead soldiers to voice their political agenda.

Paulie B on December 31, 2007 at 03:09 pm

Obviously her dad didn’t advise her on this, he would have coached her in how to schmooz and dazzle. Mom is the one that runs from the press, even the ones on her side.

You have to wonder, if Chelsea had something positive to say, why does mommy slimiest not want her saying it? Could it be she is a less than willing campaigner?

I think the difference is that adult reporters are pretty sneaky and are ready to play the gotcha game.  I doubt the nine year old was playing that.

Being wary of adults is wise, but you don’t do that to kids.

Zsa Zsa on January 1, 2008 at 10:47 am

So, threat or payoff?

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

I love freezing cold beer! I am not a big fan of the warm beer.

Zsa Zsa on January 1, 2008 at 12:07 pm

I love using a straw to get the alcohol out of frozen beers. Bypass all those empty calories annoying water.

How do you get said straw to the unfrozen alcohol?

Does Beer freeze?  People tell me that Boone’s Farm Wine tastes really good (at a lefse making party) after its been in a snow bank all day.  All I know is I had to drive home.

Carol on January 1, 2008 at 12:56 pm

Beer freezes. If you leave it in the freezer for too long it explodes. I hate that when that happens!

Zsa Zsa on January 1, 2008 at 01:00 pm

I heard that Boones Farm has formaldehyde in it… Surely not?

Zsa Zsa on January 1, 2008 at 01:06 pm

I haven’t had Boones farm since I was underage.

Toot, open it and jam the straw in quickly, before the freezing begins. And yes, I have extensive experience with this. In most cases it does not freeze till it is opened, if it is frozen already don’t try to open it. During the winter I leave cases of Miller Highlife outside, and usually only have 2 out of 24 freeze solid. Low alcohol content, low quality control.

Somehow I think leaving it outside in North Dakota is going to freeze 24 out of 24.  (-16 tonight).

I have left them out there when it was a sustained 0 for a week and they were OK. Though I have to open them outside and pour it into a glass. If I bring them in and open they freeze just about instantly.

See, 2H9? Frosty cold one refers to more than just the women in ND! smile

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

I’ll try that in the spring.

Bud and Busch both freeze around 30. Coors Light and Michelob both hold out till around 25. Don’t know why Highlife does better, must be the formaldehyde.

Miller doesn’t have formaldehyde, does it? I haven’t had boones farm since I was underage either.

Zsa Zsa on January 1, 2008 at 01:51 pm

Contrary to FDA assurances I am pretty sure most beer has trace amounts of formaldehyde. I quit worrying about such a long time,,,,What were we talking about?

Anyone else figure that 2H9’s family is going to save a lot of money on embalming charges?

Boones farm since I was underage.

LOL.. Boones Farm and underage goes hand in hand apparently. When Carol mentioned it the first thing in my mind was a bunch of us high schoolers, sitting with our legs dangling off of the Jordan’s swinging bridge and drinking strawberry wine in the moonlight.
Shoot.. my life could be a country song from the sound of that statement, just add a lil’ geeeetaw music and I got it made.

Just as soon as we find out what you and Billy Joe McCallister tossed off that bridge! smile
