Documentary: French Could Have Killed Bin Laden Twice But Couldn’t Get U.S. Authorization

I’m a bit skeptical…

PARIS: A documentary says French special forces had Osama bin Laden in their sights twice about three years ago but their US superiors never ordered them to fire.
The French military, however, said that the incidents never happened and the report was “erroneous information”.
The documentary, due to air next year and seen by Reuters on Tuesday, says the troops could have killed the al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan but the order to shoot never came, possibly because it took too long to request it.
“In 2003 and 2004 we had bin Laden in our sights. The sniper said ‘I have bin Laden’,” an anonymous French soldier is quoted as saying.
The documentary ‘Bin Laden, the failings of a manhunt’ is by journalists Emmanuel Razavi and Eric de Lavarene, who have worked for several major French media outlets in Afghanistan. A cable television channel plans to air the documentary in March.
Razavi said the soldier told them it took roughly two hours for the request to reach the US officers who could authorise it but the anonymous man is also quoted in the documentary as saying: “There was a hesitation in command.”
Razavi told Reuters several sources told them the sightings were six months apart and they declined to be more specific.

Call me crazy, but I can’t imagine there’s be an hesitancy among American commanders to take out bin Laden.

I think what really happened is that the Frenchies tried to surrender to Bin Laden, but OBL figured they’d be more of an hindrance if he sent them back to us.

Why would anyone – any armed force – have to wait for a green light before sending bin Laden to the Land Of Eternal Jihad?

This is baloney. If a sniper had had him in those cross hairs he would be a dead sand louse right now.

This report is probably false, but it is true that Clinton refused to give the order to take out OBL; we will see how the MSM reacts to this report, compared to how they reacted when Clinton let OBL off the hook.

  • Brilliant

    If this is true…
I would believe it’s deliberately done by the U.S

Had Laden been killed, How can fight wars world over in his name???
How can they kill innocent people with the excuse that they are searching for Bin Laden???

According to French and American secret services, the English Channel tunnel has been targeted by a group of Islamic militant terrorists aiming to cause maximum carnage during the holiday season.

The plan, which the French DGSE foreign intelligence service became aware of earlier this year, is revealed in a secret report to the French government on threat levels.

The report, dated December 19, indicates that the tip-off came from the American CIA. British and French intelligence agencies have run a series of checks of the security system protecting the 31-mile tunnel but the threat level, the DGSE warns, remains high. British security services remain on high alert throughout the holiday period.

According to the French sources, the plan was put together in Pakistan and is being directed from there. The plotters are believed to be Western Europeans, possibly Britons of Pakistani descent. The DGSE say that levels of ‘chatter’, the constant communication that takes place between militants, has not been so high since 2001. Last week Sir Ian Blair, the head of the Metropolitan Police, described ‘the threat of another terrorist attempt’ as ‘ever present’ adding that ‘Christmas is a period when that might happen’.

Please tell me why you need an authorization to shoot. If that asshole was in my sights he is going down. The fact that

The fact that its reported in Reuters makes me skeptical.

Come now, Toot! That was mean-spirited and uncalled for. Of course they surrendered! Its what they do, babe.

Joel, any word if the French surrendered yet?

    Whistler
I thought it was funny that the “tip” came from us and the French seem to want to take credit for foiling the plot.

Here’s where the credibility breaks down: supposedly, the French military are the only ones who know where bin Laden is.

Clearly, the only French people who know where he is are the ones who mail him his checks.

Dead on, Mike. Raid the French government payroll offices and we will find the location of a whole lot of terrorists.
