Divine Talk Radio

On most work days I eat my lunch at my desk. I often like to tune into some talk radio while I'm eating for entertainment. On most days I go to the KFI AM 640 website out of Burbank, CA which offers a live stream of the Rush Limbaugh show which airs during my lunch break.

Today as I was listening my eyes wandered down the list of other hosts who air their programs on the station. Pretty typical talk radio fare: Rush, Dr. Laura, Dr. Dean Edell, Matt Drudge and....Jesus?

That's right. Jesus, apparently, has a talk radio show.

THE JESUS CHRIST SHOW
2000 years ago He walked this earth.... teaching.... guiding.... loving and
preparing to make the ultimate sacrifice...

What if... today, you could talk to Him, laugh with Him...cry with Him? Not
just through prayer, but through the radio...

Tune in this Sunday morning to find out why the young and old from all over the world listen (via the internet & radio waves) for the answers to life's toughest questions.

Hosted by Jesus Christ
And
Produced by Neil Saavedra

I'm not Christian so I'm not entirely familiar with the conventions of that religion, but wouldn't pretending to be God or Jesus be considered blasphemy? Regardless, the idea of getting advice from some radio show host pretending to be Jesus reminds me of telling the department store Santa Claus what I want for Christmas...only without the innocent childhood fantasy.

jesus, talk radio, kfi am 640

there is nut in every religion No argument there, richard, there have been people seeing images of Jesus on trees, rocks, etc. but these sightings are usually not sanctioned by the religious groups in which they claim membership.

Back to my original query, I was asking Rob if he knew who or what organization was sponsering the Jesus show.

richard, I was refering to the established Christian religious organizations e.g. Catholic, Babtists, Lutherans, etc.  I hardly think that Jim Jones was in that category being more a cult than a religion.  And yes I am aware that you probably believe all religions are cults.

Nope just saying that there is nut in every religion that considers itself/himself mainstream and inside of every cult there can be a traditional religious group.

What exactly is a Traditional Christain religous group?

I am sure that Jim Jones said he was a traditionalist while stiring the kool aid.

Having actually heard the show once or twice, I can tell you that it’s a very good show with solidly Christian values. It’s clearly an anonymous minister who runs the show--and in the shows I heard he never comes flat out and says “I am Jesus Christ.” He *does*, however, quote scripture ("I am the way” sort of stuff) quite a bit in a way which can catch you off guard. (The language he uses on the show is quite subtle: when he says “Jesus Christ is your host”, does he mean “host of a talk show” or “Lord of Hosts”?)

Frankly I think it’s a marvelous hook in a solidly Blue area where the shallow beautiful (and spiritually bereft) people find themselves tuning in to what they think will be a sarcastic take on Christianity--and are drawn in by a very loving and spiritual help show (in the spirit of Dr. Laura) instead.

Christianity needs no hooks, ploys, or gimmicks to attract attention.  If the host is pretending to be God in any way, or just skirting that line, yes it’s obviously blasphamous… but what else is new in this world?

Well, there is blasphamous, and then there isblasphamous: after all, what is Protestanism but a Catholic heresy?

But if you’re expecting a radio show that is a sarcastic take or a heretical take on Christianity and Christian thought, you’ll be disappointed.

Really George Carlin got rich doing it for many many years however, I do agree his invisible man in the sky shit although funny is getting very old.

I don’t know that you could sustain that kind of thing for very long.  Funny in small doses, but would grow tiresome pretty quickly.

But that’s the point: it’s not funny. It’s not a comedy show. It’s a help show in the vain of Dr. Laura: a minister gives a few comments, takes calls, and helps people. And that’s the thing about the show: if you’ve never heard the show you think it’s going to be funny or sarcastic or anti-christian or even “Simpson’s” Christian (which pokes more fun at believers than at beliefs)--but inside, what you get is a traditional church.

I’m not sure I’d be willing to take advice from someone pretending to be Jesus.  And clearly, that is what he is doing.

“Jesus Christ” is even listed as a “host” on the station’s website.  Its just weird.
