Distasteful Plane Crash At Awards Show?

Early Sunday morning tragedy struck when an airplane in Kentucky full of passengers crashed killing everyone but one on board. Sunday evening the Emmy Awards featured a skit parodying the show Lost starring host Conan O’Brien who gets into a plane crash on his way to L.A.

Predictably, some are upset.
Personally, I think it’s a bit silly to get worked up about this. Yeah, the timing was unfortunate, but as tragic as what happened in Kentucky is plane crashes happen all the time. It wasn’t like the folks at the Emmys were trying to mock what happened in Kentucky, and any subsequent outrage over this skit from those involved with that crash in Kentucky is going to seem a bit contrived to me.
Yes, seeing a plane crash skit after a real-life tragic plane crash can be upsetting for some, but what are we going to do? Life goes on.

    The proper accusation seems to be poor timing.

    Thank you. What, should they cancel Lost too? To me, it’s like when they CGI’ed the Twin Towers out of movies after 9/11. Just silliness.

    The skit was in poor taste… even if most of those on either side of the TV cameras were too oblivious to realize.

    could be worse. you could have a bunch of “offended” rioting muslims like our danish friends had. they printed a cartoon in a newspaper showing the muslim god, whatever his name is, as a terrorist. one silly cartoon resulted in flag burning and smashing up buildings ! at least no-one did that in kentucky

    I think it was in poor taste. I suspect that they didn’t think anything about running the piece ot they couldn’t figure out how to open the show without it. It’s also highly likely that the producers were totally unaware of the incident. Think about it. How many times have nay of us been involved in a major project and are oblivious to the goings on around us? Now multiply that by the size of the Emmys. I can see where, when you are consumed with the logistics of an event that large, you can be totally lost when it comes to current events. That doesn’t excuse it. It only explains it.

    In retrospect, they should have cancelled the skit, said that such a skit would have been aired during the program, but in deference to those who were killed in the Lexington, Ky crash, decided they would not do the skit.

    Change “last Thursday” to “last Tuesday.” Right as I was typing that my Prof said something along the lines of “…and for next Thursday’s class…”

    The crash(and the unfunny parody) happened right around the time that Conan was bashing FNC as “fake news” to suck up to his buddies, Stewart and Colbert, the real fake news guys.

    I would bet money that a large percentage of the Emmy participants and a larger percentage of the audience had no clue as to what was reported in the news on Sunday. We are not talking about rocket scientists here, tv celebrities and the people that spend 6 hours in front of the tv every night.
