Did McCain Rip Off Parts Of His Speech On Georgia From Wikipedia?

Maybe, maybe not.  But if so I guess it’s something he and Obama have in common.

Not to defend McCain, but the passages he allegedly swiped from Wikipedia are basically descriptions of facts about Georgia’s history.  Given that facts are facts, it’s kind of hard write/speak about stuff like that without sounding like an encyclopedia entry.

For the most part if a candidate’s speech is plagerized it’s an issue of the speech writer. Kinda a non-issue.

It’s all political bullshit. Liberals (and Robert108) lie and spin and twist and obscure and distract and cheat to protect their guys and hurt the opposing team. It’s like wrestling. They distract the ref while their team mate hits you with a chair. There’s no rule they won’t break, no law they won’t skirt, no crime they won’t forgive as long as they can win.

Since when is paraphrasing another persons text “ripping it off”?  Clearly it was written in another person’s voice, and it is rare that speeches cite original sources, so I just don’t see much to spend any intellectual energy on here, other than wikipedia was used as a source in this case.

It’d be another thing if the text were copied verbatim, I would think…

The same facts are on Encyclopedia Brittanica, CIA World Fact Book, and Federation of American Scientists webpages. Does this mean that anyone who uses them is plagiarizing?

No, only if it’s a Republican. Hope that clarifies things.
