Did Earl Pomeroy Lie About Not Seeking Position With Life Insurance Industry Group?

Last week Rep. Earl Pomeroy told his caucus that if the health care debate dragged on he was going to be forced to retire. The national life insurance industry, long big-money contributors to Earl Pomeroy’s campaigns, quickly dusted off a job for him but Rep. Pomeroy denied seeking it.
Today, however, news persists that Pomeroy is actively seeking for the job. National Journal reports “Dems Vie For Top Position At Insurers Group”:

“Several high-profile Democrats, including North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy and former Sen. Bob Kerrey (Neb.), are said to be in the running to fill former Oklahoma Republican Gov. Frank Keating’s post as CEO and president of the American Council of Life Insurers,” Roll Call (subscription) reports.

Note that it isn’t ACLI courting Pomeroy. It’s Pomeroy actively running to be CEO of ACLI.
So is Rep. Pomeroy staying in the House race? And did he like to North Dakotans about seeking this job? Is he waiting to see whether or not he gets the job before he decides to continue his campaign?
By the way, if Pomeroy went to work for ACLI he’d be near a familiar face. Kim Dorgan, wife of retiring Senator Byron Dorgan, works there as well.

Doubt if Pomeroy had to ask any more than Jeb Bush
did to walk on as a director of Tenet Health care,
    ($450K+, 13 meetings a year).
Asking would be rude, if someone could overhear.

That’s life in the big city.
Throw all the Tea bags you want.

Just like Hillary didn’t have to ask to be on the board of WalMart when her husband was governor of Arkansas, but since that was a Dem you left leaning hate mongers find it acceptable.

Glenn Pomeroy lost to Stenehjem for AG in 2000, which came as a quite a surprise to him. When last spotted, he was insuring California against earthquakes. Better that than Haiti.

I think that Earl is going to play it safe. He’s not going to drop out of the race unless and until he is offered the job at ACLI. Then he will be able to make the excuse tat this is an opportunity he can’t refuse and bow out of the race. I think he laid some of the groundwork for that strategy when he complained last week about being forced to retire because of the prolonged health care debate.

if he stays down 10% to ‘other’ and dorgan does not throw $2M at him it will be tough, but i just dont see him walking away without a fight. i also dont the the liberals letting the WHOLE STATE go without a battle. Conrads reelection with a gop senator and a gop house rep gets to be very, very difficult. the liberals have GOT TO KNOW these two senate seats would be gone for the foreseeable future. if they walk, they are more stupid than i ever would have guessed….

for the record, if barry stays in charge and we have two gop senators and a gop house rep, you can kiss minots or g forks air base good bye. mark it down.

I think the retirement watch is on for Earl. I just don’t see him staying in this race.

For God’s sake, let the bugger find a job elsewhere, anywhere!

I tend to agree with this assessment.

I don’t think Earl’s heart is in running. I think he wants this ACLI job.

And I’d like to offer my personal endorsement that he’s the right man for the job.

That’s what I suspected. Who did Earl’s brother, Glenn, go to work for after voters kicked him out of the tax commissioner’s job?
