Dickinson City Commission Hopeful A Late Payer On Property Taxes
2:24pm
The SAB Property Tax Hall of Shame grew by one today based on another open records search, this time in Stark County.
Shirley K. Dukart of Dickinson, ND is one of three candidates running for a seat on the Dickinson City Commission, although hers is the only one listed as for a two year unexpired term. She also has a four year track record of unpaid property taxes to the county.
Here is the run down:
Shirley K. Dukart Property Tax Delinquencies
2007: $1,187.05 owed with a penalty of $35.61 – Paid 26 days late
2001: $1,582.49 owed (including specials) with a penalty of $73.06 – Paid 146 days late
1997: $1,255.41 owed with a penalty of $37.66 – Paid 79 days late
1996: $1,206.80 owed with a penalty of $36.20 – Paid 73 days late
While not the worst culprit we have come across, Ms. Dukart nonetheless has somewhat of a habit of paying her public obligations in a less than timely manner. She thus joins the SAB Property Tax Hall of Shame, alongside the following:
o Mark Armstrong, Burleigh County Commission
o Jerry Woodcox, Burleigh County Commission
o Doug Schonert, Burleigh County Commission
o Donald Forsman, Candidate for Grand Forks City Council
o Tim Mahoney, Fargo City Commissioner and Deputy Mayor
o Marty Johnson, Candidate for Cass County Commission
Again, there certainly may be reasons for the delinquencies shown by these candidates, and perhapsthose reasons are good. But, regardless of reason, our public officials (and those who want to be public officials) have a responsibility to first toe the line of responsible citizenship.
That is just part of setting the right example for the people you represent.
