Department Of Agriculture To Bailout Big Ethanol?

The North Dakota Policy Council has news about the Department of Agriculture getting ready to bail out failing ethanol plants.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture may use its rural development money to assist ethanol plants that have suffered losses in the volatile corn futures markets, Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer said Friday in Des Moines.
“Some plants are under pressure because they’ve been speculating on corn,” Schafer told reporters after speaking at the World Food Prize symposium breakfast.

Wait a minute. These ethanol got burned in the futures market? But…didn’t Byron Dorgan and the Democrats tell us that speculating is the devil? And now we’re bailing these companies out after they lost their shirts speculating?
I’m sure Dorgan and his fellow Democrats will be condemning this move any moment now.

My point was that you made no sense.

Dorgan’s not going to oppose this (or at least I don’t think he will) because he’s been fully supportive of the ethanol boondoggle.

However if he were to be consistent on his stand against speculator’s he’d refuse to bail out the ethanol boondoggle.

Can he (Dorgan) control how the agriculture dept. spends money already appropriated?
Weird angle you took, valid nonetheless.

This is senator Byron Dorgan. I along with my fellow Democrats condemn this move. Where do your fellow Republicans stand on the issue? And how come they are not here with me saying no more welfare to buisiness?

What happened to capitalism? Or is this from year after year of telling our kids that everyone wins and no one loses? Everyone who plays gets a blue ribbon or trophy. No one is responsible for their actions.

Just wondering as we home school our kids..?

Does anyone have an idea if Ellinas was trying to make a point and what that point might be?

The lazy, greedy grain dealers tell Byron to jump and he asks “how high?”

Whistler. I think it it obvious. The agriculture Dept,is staffed by a Bush appointee. Byron Dorgan gets blamed while it is a Republican administration dishing out money to Big Ethanol.
    What is your point?
