Dems Spend Half Million* Taxpayer $ on Resort Trips

In the “Do as I say, don’t do as I do” department, Wells Fargo was excoriated recently and shamed out of sending some of its top people to Vegas as a reward for a job well done, because…they received taxpayer money in the bailout!
Here comes your basic double standard:

The House Democratic Caucus spent more than $500,000 in taxpayer money over the past five years for its annual retreats at resorts in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Whaaaat? Say it ain’t so! A retreat at a resort on the taxpayer dime???? Heads must roll!

On Thursday, Democrats will head to the Kingsmill Resort and Spa in historic Williamsburg, Va., for the three-day planning powwow. The resort boasts multiple championship golf courses, a full-service spa and six restaurants.

Because nothing says “Save the country” like tee time at Kingsmill!

…The topic is particularly sensitive this year after several Democratic lawmakers slammed American International Group (AIG) executives for spending more than $440,000 at a company retreat in Monarch Beach, Calif., just days after the federal government bailed the company out with $85 billion in taxpayer funds.

Yes! But those were “little people”! Not legislators!

…In 2004… the caucus paid more than $27,000 to Executive Jet Management for a chartered flight for Bill Clinton, who addressed the issues conference.

Sure beats first class!
Funny how the royal class of American politicians wants to regulate and micromanage every aspect of American business, but can’t seem to follow the same set of standards themselves!

    I think it was 1/2 a million …

I’m sure not kin to you or to any other liberal, and wouldn’t want to be. Some day you may mature enough to understand that too.

So all this is coming to light. Makes you wonder what kind of spending was going on beforehand.

Rugby Reader – What will it take for people to realize that they are all cut from the same cloth?

When are you going to realize that you’re talking to people who wish to CUT that cloth? And by converse, you’re always arguing to increase the size of that cloth?

ELLINAS: Can you please tell me where you got the article to cut and paste, I’d like to read the whole thing when I get a chance.
    Thanks.

e? Where is the $ total that RNC spent of tax payers money for their private retreats?

Both parties are wrong in doing this.

    I agree, Ellinas.

    From the same link:

Democrats and Republicans have criticized each other for the way each party pays for its annual retreat. Republicans huddled at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va., last week. The Congressional Institute, a nonprofit that pays for activities at least in part through dues from lobbyists, subsidizes the GOP retreat. Republicans also allow members of the institute’s private sector advisory board, many of whom are lobbyists, to travel to the resort each year for a dinner with the members.

    Same shit Abramoff was pulling.

  • sayanything-4625

Why can’t they pay these things out of DNC funds.

I would kinda like to see Obama say a little about this!

  • ellinas

The Congressional Institute is a Washington, D.C. organization that conducts research and hosts seminars on topics such as health care, taxes, energy, and the environment, for Republican members of Congress. The institute is a non-profit run by lobbyists and funded by corporate contributions. In May 2005, 14 of the 15 board members were lobbyists.Mission and expenditures
Since 1987, the institute has spent millions of dollars to send lawmakers and their staff to the annual GOP leadership, chief of staff, and bicameral retreats. The institute has worked with the House and Senate Republican Conferences to set up retreat agendas, develop discussion materials for members, and select speakers at the institute’s meetings.
The institute holds at least one retreat for Republican leaders each year, and another for all House and Senate Republicans, usually at the Greenbrier, a resort in the West Virginia mountains, or other expensive retreats in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. In 2005, the luncheon speaker at the was President George W. Bush.

Both parties are wrong in doing this.

Well I guess we are going to need to drain the swamp of all the leftist that are morally corrupt.

  • ellinas

Here are some nice videos of the Greenbrier where the Republicans are wined and dined by the lobbyists.

Donations to non profits are tax deductible.
You can do the math as to how much it cost the taxpayer to send the GOP on junkets.

  • http://washingtondcisbroken.blogspot.com/ DCisBroken

I totally agree with this. The American elected officials are all hypocitical. Follow my thoughts on this at http://washingtondcisbroken.blogspot.com/

  • 2Hotel9

No sweety, the Democrats used tax dollars for their private retreats. How much did Republicans use? Simple question, why is it difficult to answer?

  • ellinas

A Citizen! My first post on this, is from the link provided by my good friend Proof.
The second one, I lifted from wikipedia. Here’s the link:
