Democrats Want Troops Out Of Iraq Before 2008 Presidential Election
That’s right. They’re want to shape our foreign policy around elections.
We talk about not politicizing wars, but it doesn’t get much more political than this.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday proposed legislation that would bring American combat troops out of
Iraq by August 2008 at the latest.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, wants the proposal approved next week in the House Appropriations Committee as part of a $100 billion bill to continue funding the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If so, the full House would debate the measure the following week.
“Our troops are out by no later than August of 2008” under the legislation, Pelosi told reporters.
Why August of 2008? Because that would have the troops out of Iraq in enough time so that the Democrat Presidential candidate doesn’t have to campaign on Iraq. So that people like John Edwards and Hillary Clinton don’t have to explain their “I voted for it before I was against it” positions on Iraq during the 2008 campaign.
Pretty crass, no?
